Books like these, stories of lives much different from the ones we live now, are essential to not forget the past. From slaughtering chickens, to instilling family values, to the importance of hard work and discipline, Coulter talks a bit about it all.

I have only read a sample of the book itself, and reading this review makes me want to read the rest of her story!

"Dibs and Dabs of my Life" by Gertrude Coulter reminded me of my childhood. This book sounded like I am listening to my mum tell me tales about her childhood. I used to love it when she tells these stories and I look forward to it every single night until technology (internet and cellphones) ruined it for me ...

Trust me, this book is a keeper! :tiphat: I love reading about stories like this and I love listening to one because I always pick up many life lessons!
Thank you for such an in-depth review. My love for this book just got stronger! :)

This sounds like a touching memoir. This novel discusses how the author grew up in a simpler time and both her successes and hardships. Congrats on the book of the day! Great review.

I love memoirs that highlight how the author triumphed over difficulties in their life. Wouldn't it be nice if books like these could be read in classrooms across the country? True stories like this one could inspire children who may be experiencing their own difficulties. Thanks so much for this compelling review.

Thanks for the great review! I love memoirs, and this sounds like one I'd like to read, especially of a time and era outside of my realm of familiarity. My grandparents are no longer alive and I think reading this might help me connect with what life was like. I'm adding this to my list!

Thank you for the wonderful review. I am not sure I want to read an essay right now (read one too many scholarship essays right now), but this is definitely one I'll keep in mind!

You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means.

I love memoirs of simpler times. This book will be a treasure for the author's family. It's quite an accomplishment to take the time to narrate your life.

Nice review. I love autobiographies, especially ones that make you smile and feel good. Seems as though Gertrude had a heck of a life and I can’t wait to read it.

Not a fan of non-fiction but this one sounds intriguing as everyone goes through change in life and many of us are scared of it. Hope it helps the readrrs to accept change wholeheartedly.

The author, Gertrude Coulter, is a gem. I thoroughly enjoyed the memories of her childhood. I think it would be wonderful if everyone wrote or recorded stories of their life to pass down to their children and grandchildren. The family photos were an extra bonus. Congratulations to the author for being chosen as BOTD. Thanks to the reviewer for your excellent review.

This sounds like a wonderful, short memoir which demonstrates that a person does not need a ‘big’ story in life to be able to write an autobiography. Everyone can teach us something - about life, love and family. Your review was short and to the point and I enjoyed reading it. Many thanks for this.

It's so inspirational. I really hope that one day I will be able to remember my childhood this way. For some reason, it makes you a bit excited to become old(er).
