I just read an excerpt from this book and was hooked. The writing style is smooth and flowing and the author's wry sense of humor is apparent. While the doctor is 87 at the time of penning this book, the story begins through the eyes of a child and follows him to adulthood. I am looking forward to reading more!

Based on the review this is not a book that I would enjoy reading. I dislike reading anything that has violence, accidents, murder or suicide. I also don't like to read anything related to religion. I think that I will pass based on the gory scenes in the book.

It's great when authors can weave in true events with fictional ones, it helps the story have a grounding in reality that I really enjoy. Thanks for the review!

Loved your review - thank you! I have added today's BOTD to my WTR list, and I'm looking forward to reading it over Spring Break, hopefully. :-)

Fact and fiction join forces in today's BOTD, making it a true page-turner. An 87yo surgeon, with ties to the underworld, shares his story as a successful doctor and his experiences in treating celebrities and the mafia, all while working as an undercover cop. Sounds awesome!! Congrats to the author and thank you!

This book sounds like a combination of Boy by Roald Dahl and something by Lemony Snicket. I love dark, quirky humour. Your review has convinced me to add this to my to read shelf, if only to find out about the Elizabeth Taylor incident.

I don’t mind memoirs, but the difficulty with this one for me is that some of it is embellished. I don’t know if I want to try and decipher what is fact from fiction. I read the sample pages and what the author wrote sounded credible. I think I would be always second guessing this one. Thanks for the insight on this, but I think I’m going to pass.

You have me completely intrigued to discover the specific events circling the author's parents and the murder that inspired him to write this book! Your insightful review has given all the key elements I search for, such as writing style, humor, and mix of fact and fiction. Congrats!

That was a very complete review that told a lot of good information about the life that the author led. I can see why he was let down that the three words weren't mentioned in the book.

It's interesting to read a story about how a criminal can turn his life around. I'm just a bit concerned about the title though. I hope it does not mean any disrespect to other people's faith.

I know of bad things happening to good people. Bad things happening to bad people? I will read The Eleventh Commandment by David W. Florence, M.D to understand more and also to know what The Eleventh Commandment states. Great work by the author.
