Mark's account of Louis's recovery from a heartbreaking diagnosis of "zero chance of survival" to his victorious classification as the First Survivor is a heartwarming one. A rare disease called Legg-Calvé-Perthes was discovered after Lou's mother, Mary Ellen, noticed that their three-year-old son was walking strangely. Now, Lou did not get better, and additional diagnostic testing revealed a very serious condition. Then the family had to deal with seven years of tests, scans, procedures, and treatments, during which Lou alternated between days at home with his older brother, Harry, and days in the hospital.

This book captures hope in vivid colors, the story of a child plagued by a "debilitating" illness who went through a lot of pains and recovery stages, smiles and tough times but at the end health is restored. Lou is not just a survivor, but also an object of renewed hope.

It's possible to get help of all dangerous deases if we act in time as early as possible. This has proved by Lou and his parents. Lou's parents didn't hesitate to take action when needed and later the young boy survived this horror deases of tedious circumstances. This deases is one of the cruel deases even my worst enemy I don't wish him or her this deases.

When Louis Unger was diagnosed with cancer, the doctor's prognosis was a bleak 'zero chance of survival'. Yet, his parents refused to succumb to despair. Instead, they bravely ventured beyond conventional medical treatments, seeking hope in adversity. Their courage is a source of inspiration, beautifully captured in "First Survivor: The Impossible Childhood Cancer Breakthrough" by Mark Unger. Thanks for an insightful review.

Mark and Mary Ellen didn't just sit back and wait for the worst instead, they became their son's strongest advocates researching, questioning and pushing until they found the treatment that saved his life.
