Seems like this book has an interestingly nostalgic way to show an autobiography, with good vibes and important learned lessons in life shared by the author. I really like that. Thank you for the review Cecilia.

Thank you for sharing your review with us. Admittedly when I read the description of this book and noted the word ‘baseball’ my mind switched off. After reading your review and the sample pages I will happily admit that I judged this book incorrectly.

Sacchetti's storytelling skills are reminiscent of the popular series, The Wonder Years or the classic movie, A Christmas Story. For instance, he fondly recalls family traditions, such as Sunday Mass, followed by a delicious pasta dinner and concluding with the men of the family playing cards. Sacchetti describes watching his father, grandfather, and uncles hurl good-natured insults while critiquing the others' skills. While no physical violence or money was involved, he found the post-mealtime ritual every bit as entertaining as watching TV.

You sold me with this reference! I love The Wonder Years!
These traditions and moments that seem minuscule at the time are a huge part of what makes us who we are. It seems like a lovely, heartwarming book.

Don't you ever get a day off? It seems like you have been doing all the reviews for the books of the day!

I most like the themes of family devotion, faith, and community that are consistently woven through the collection.

I think what I find that I dislike the most about any collection is that they often seem disjointed. But your quote above seems to have picked up on that very point. And another winning book and another great review.

It seemed to be light novel that focuses on good times rather than dwell on the hardships one encountered in his life. And yet, learning is to be had just like any other real stories. Congrats!

I knew the name Charles Sacchetti sounded familiar. I reviewed his book Knowing He’s There a few months ago. It was a terrific book. Like this one, it’s a collection of feel-good stories about the events and people that shaped his life. I may give this one a look. Thanks for the review, Cecilia.

The book review is very interesting and captivating. I love the family devotion theme that the book has, the sense of neighborhood community and the loving act of his mother that got him playing baseball. All these sound very interesting and they draw me towards getting the book.
