Seems an interesting book to read. The review alone provokes emotions and I wonder how much more the book will. Congratulations for BOTD

Today's BOTD is a great choice for International Women's Day! Lina sounds like a strong woman who overcame some very difficult obstacles with grace and positivity. Although readers will want a box of tissues handy as they read, this memoir is filled with inspiration and hope. Thank you!! I've downloaded my copy. :-)

The memoir by Lina Kennedy in 'The Sugar Queen' sounds like a great read with powerful lessons. Right up my alley as I like non-fiction. I will definitely add it to my reading list. Congratulations on BOTD and good review.

Unfortunately, I have little to none interest in reading this book. Review portrayed it to it's best, but in all honesty it is your regular "how I became rich/famous" biography. And they are totally not my cup of tea. Sorry and congrats!

Great review! This book sounds like an emotional read. Girls being molested by their fathers or other family members is more common than I would have ever imagined. I can't imagine having to live through that for 10-11 years! It sounds like she pulled everything together when she went out on her own. She must be a very strong woman! I enjoy a touching memoir occasionally and this one sounds like one I would definitely read! :tiphat:

Thank you for such a passionate review!

This sounds like a pretty inspirational book while also being totally real! I can easily see how She becomes compelling and why she would be so kind to her own son.

This book has me intrigued. Although the content of sexual abuse and an alcoholic father usually does not appeal to me, your review portraying Lina with a strong personality to overcome all obstacles has me hooked. Her tenacity to move forward and face whatever comes her way is inspiring. I read a few chapters of The Sugar Queen as a sample and I agree with your assessment that it is well-edited as I did not discover any grammar or spelling errors. I definitely plan to finish reading this book. Based on your exemplary review the Sugar Queen will be a great reading experience.

Lisa's story is another example of a woman's courage and determination to succeed. Kudos to her for finding the strength to move on beyond her awful experiences as a girl with an abusive, alcoholic father and to build a wonderful life for herself and her son. Thanks for your review!

This sounds like an emotional rollercoaster. Through all the pain she endured, she still found a way to be positive and that is truly inspirational. I am interested in learning more about her running away to join the circus! Thanks for the wonderful review!

At first, I thought "ugh, another book about how to try (and fail) to become the so-called perfect woman." Obviously that isn't what this book is, and I appreciate your in-depth review.

All success stories charge the reader with positive energy and I am happy for the author's success, not just in business but also in writing.
However, the review is so enthusiastic it gives the feeling of "too good to be true"
I must read the book and come back to this comment.
