I rate this story 4 out of 4 stars, It is such a sad inspiring story because no parent deserves to witness their child suffering from anything. The best thing about this story is that It gives hope to parents who are currently facing difficulties regarding their children. In this story I loved the fact that the boy got help eventually. Such a heartwarming story.

It seems this is a hard hitting book that I have to be in the right place to read it. I don't like to read about illness anyways. Glad to hear Lou has such a great parents who fought for him. Good job with the review.

It sounds like a great breakthrough story. Having had a family member die of cancer, and still a bit salty, I unfortunately am unable to read of any breakthrough in cancer because my family wasn't fortunate enough to recieve such. And I know how frustrating it can be financially and the medical staff not giving you any hope. However, I am glad the Lou's family recieved their breakthrough.

The gradual intensification of Louis' symptoms had me worried. I'm hoping that the title is the true summary of the book, as not the entire thing was available to me. Congratulations on BOTD. This will motivate adults to be more observant where their kids are concerned.

I can't think of how parents' emotions are shaken when their child is in a horrible disease, as I'm not a parent on my own. Mary Ellen and Mark are such strong parents who did everything to save Lou's life. This story will touch the lives of individuals who suffered illness and fought it. Their journey of healing will surely be a touching read. Congratulations to the author on BOTD!

Mark Unger's book "First Survivor: The Impossible Childhood Cancer Breakthrough" is a moving and motivational tale of a parent's child's battle with cancer. The book skillfully depicts Lou's healing process, from a dismal diagnosis to victory. A personal touch is added by the photos, and the evocative descriptions elicit a wide range of feelings. The advocacy message of the book and the Ungers' tenacity are admirable, but some readers might find the sophisticated medical terminology and grammatical faults a little difficult to understand. Overall, it's a touching tale that inspires courage and hope in people going through comparable difficulties.

A family’s world is turned upside down when they discover that their son has a rare childhood cancer, with even rarer chances of survival. The father begins documenting their journey from the very first day and that is how we end up with this beautiful book. With the bravery of the little boy, his ever-loving parents and the determined doctors, they all hold hands and find their way out of the whirlwind. This is a book that will drive even the toughest to the brink of tears. Well-deserved BOTD.
