"Rescue Me" by Katherine Starr is a gripping biography that sheds light on the extraordinary journey of Annabelle Cripps, a talented athlete whose path was marred by unimaginable adversity. Starr masterfully narrates Cripps' rise to prominence in the world of swimming, juxtaposed with the harrowing reality of sexual abuse she endured from a trusted coach. What sets this review apart is its insightful exploration of the book's central theme: resilience in the face of trauma. By highlighting Cripps' journey of overcoming adversity and finding purpose in advocating for fellow athletes through Safe4Athletes, the reviewer eloquently captures the essence of the book's message.

The reviewer's appreciation for the book's empowering narrative and its ability to inspire readers transcends its minor shortcomings, such as grammatical errors and pacing issues. The reviewer rightly acknowledges the importance of early discussions on the psychological impact of trauma and excessive drinking, suggesting areas for improvement while emphasizing the book's overall depth and educational value. With a heartfelt recommendation and a perfect score of four stars, the reviewer effectively communicates the book's significance not only to athletes but also to anyone navigating their own journey of healing and resilience. "Rescue Me" emerges as a must-read for its profound insights, compelling storytelling, and the remarkable strength of its author, Katherine Starr.

Rescue Me by Katherine Starr is a powerful biography that delves into the life of athlete Annabelle Cripps, exposing the harsh realities of sexual abuse in sports. Her journey from a promising swimmer to a champion for athlete safety and founder of Safe4Athletes is both heart-wrenching and inspiring. Congratulations on being BOTD!

The book has its most powerful moment when it asks for change. Starr's efforts toward athlete welfare show a glimpse of her selflessness. The memoir is a painful lesson that Olympic athletes should never sacrifice their health just to chase excellence.

Having to live in a toxic environment and remaining silent as the abuser was the one who selected athletes in various competitions, Katherine began to drink excessively to face her inner demons. The story of overcoming adversity is the most fascinating and remarkable aspect of this book. Sports enthusiasts are fascinated when they witness an athlete bounce back and recover from an injury.

Born into a wealthy family of British origin, the author had all the facilities to be a top athlete from an early age. In addition to not worrying about the essential material needs, she always had contact with the best coaches. The training made her a phenomenon in the world of swimming when she was still a child. What seemed to be a career that would inevitably create an Olympic gold medalist did not materialize. Great review.

Great review! In a time where hype around women’s athletics is possibly the highest it’s ever been and being all too aware of all of the dangerous things “done in the dark” in such highly-publicized spaces, this book could not be any more timely if it tried.
That's a fantastic book, Katherine. People only win when they make themselves useful and help their community. Kudos, you're a real champion.
Amen to that! God bless you, Katherine Starr!

"Rescue Me" by Katherine Starr is a biography of athlete Annabelle Cripps. Despite the enviable results in swimming, her career was not realized to its full potential. On the way to a bright sports future, the young swimmer was prevented by sexual abuse.

I'm very drawn to the point that Katherine's success at overcoming her trauma was more focused on the emotional success and that her biggest triumph was not in the pool, but in creating a safe space for athletes to share about their own abuse and trauma.

This sounds like the kind of self-reflective, and ultimately uplifting memoir that I will enjoy. I look forward to reading it!

Thank you for the superb review, Lina! I fully agree with your view that people only win when they are useful to the community and that Katherine is a champion beyond the Olympic swimming pool; she has won her life back after the severe psychological trauma.
