I am not normally excited by memoirs. This one, that tells about Joanne’s struggles, seems to be very inspiring. Congratulations on BOTD!

Being hit by a truck must be a very scary experience. Losing one's siblings and contracting colon cancer and surviving all of these ordeals, take guts. Thank you for the great review.

Prior to her accident, Joanne had a tendency to work excessively and neglect her physical wellbeing. However, the challenges she faced forced her to reassess her priorities and take better care of herself. This is a valuable lesson for many people who may also be guilty of neglecting their own self-care in pursuit of their goals or ambitions.
-Myself included, a lot of us are guilty of this, though we don't want to admit it. I would like to read this book so I may get motivated too. An excellent review. Thank you.

Many people crumble when faced with life threatening situations while only few people overcome them with courage. The author’s story sounds inspirational. Your review is well-written. I would definitely read this book.

I've only read the first couple of chapters, but I can already agree with the reviewer about the strength of Joanne and Fred's relationship. It's very telling that in the middle of her traumatic accident, she's worried about how Fred is handling everything given his own traumatic past. I look forward to reading more about how these events shaped both of their lives.

Wow! Great review! I have found that there are two kinds of people in this world. Those who have misfortune and play the victim, and those who go on and beat all odds and become out the other side better than before. I am certainly going to look into this book and read it.

This sounds like such a promising book. So many things stand out in it: counting on solid support from a partner, being able to reassess one's life, developing the strength to keep going, and finding beauty and 'life' in even the smallest moments.

The memoir, "By Accident: a memoir of letting go" by Joanne Greene, begins with a vivid retelling of Joanne's life-altering accident, where she was struck by a truck while crossing the street. Although the accident was a traumatic experience, Joanne managed to overcome it and emerge from the ordeal even stronger. Little did she know that life had more challenges in store for her. After recovering from the accident, Joanne received the devastating diagnosis of stage one colon cancer. This was particularly hard for her as she had already lost her elder brother to a hemorrhagic stroke and her sister to cancer. As the sole surviving member of her nuclear family, the cancer diagnosis weighed heavily on her. Joanne's memoir unfolds her journey of survival and self-discovery, revealing that her experience was much more than a simple tale of adversity.

When I initially encountered the book's title, "By Accident: a memoir of letting go," I expected a story about an unintentional and regrettable action. However, I was pleasantly surprised to discover that my assumptions were incorrect. Joanne Greene's narrative of her tumultuous experiences is written with a gentle and tranquil tone, creating a captivating and heartwarming read. Her candidness about her struggles only adds to the book's charm.

One aspect that particularly touched me was Joanne's relationship with her husband, Fred. Their bond is truly remarkable, and it evoked a sense of longing for such a supportive and caring partner in my own life. During her year of recovery at home following the accident, Fred's unwavering care and support played a pivotal role in her healing process. Additionally, Joanne's stories about her upbringing and childhood were both endearing and captivating.

A key insight that can be drawn from Joanne's journey is the idea that adversity can catalyze personal growth and development. Prior to her accident, Joanne had a tendency to overwork and neglect her physical well-being. However, the challenges she faced forced her to reevaluate her priorities and focus on self-care. This is a valuable lesson for anyone who might find themselves neglecting their own well-being in the pursuit of their goals. Joanne's story serves as an inspiration for readers to be kinder to themselves and prioritize their health and happiness. Personally, her memoir moved me to adopt a more compassionate attitude towards myself and find joy in life's simple pleasures.

I found the book thoroughly enjoyable, and I couldn't find any aspects to criticize. Joanne's writing style resonated with me, and her sense of humor added a delightful touch to the narrative. Knowing that the book was professionally edited, with only a few minor errors, added to the overall positive reading experience. Thus, I wholeheartedly give it a rating of 5 out of 5 stars.

The memoir touches on themes of survival, self-discovery, and the importance of valuing one's health and life. As such, it is a recommended read for those who enjoy memoirs that explore these topics.
