I find the memoir Once Upon a Time in Afghanistan intriguing as it recounts a time long gone. On top of that, it's about a country often considered a conflict zone. I'd love to dig deep and witness, through the pages, the country that was not once what it is today—through the eyes of an insider.

Territorial, religious, or political disputes do not benefit humanity. This story, which is told from the perspective of the author, whose family was forced to relocate in the 1980s, is upbeat and resilient. She offers an alternative narrative, which the media does not cover. Congratulations on BOTD, author!

It must have been very hard to see her country, Afghanistan, change to the one we all know now, according to the news and social media. The journey that the author has taken overcoming adversity and the way she tells her experiences seem to emotionally engage the reader. Sounds intriguing!

I'm glad to know that reading the book gave you closure for your grief. However, at this moment, I'm not ready to immerse myself in such stories. Perhaps I'll consider revisiting it at a later time. Thank you for your well-written review.

Another deeply personal story. Sounds like a very difficult journey going from Afghanistan to India and then trying to make living in Canada.

"Once Upon A Time In Afghanistan" by Nazila Sawhney. An interesting nonfiction book, talks about the author's story telling of her childhood in Afghanistan. Escaping with her family because of the war and conflict. The author grew up in Afghanistan, schooled, had friends and enjoy the celebration of the Eid. The author created lots of positive impact despite her life challenges. Congrats on your #BOTD.

I believe, from reading this review, that the reviewer dealt with the story of the book in a very important way, and we learned about the story of Nazila and what happened in her life, from leaving her country due to the war and moving to several countries and countries. It briefly dealt with the life of refugees. Thank you.

This book seems very interesting, for me it is always fascinating to read the stories of people who actually survived traumatic experiences and realize the difference between the reality that these people tell and the news we find every day.
Is amazing the courage and strength shown by the author to expose her life experience, since we understand that these stories are hard to tell and find a lot of people refuse to believe them.
Great review!

I believe in something greater than myself.
