This sounds like a great read for young men and parents of boys. It's not an easy journey to transition in adulthood. If we can learn from each other's experience then we can take a lesson or two from Mark Butler. Thank you Natalie for a well written review.

It's a great autobiography that is taking me way back to my childhood. Am I a man yet? Is a question every Man asks himself silently or audibly. Great review.

Autobiography is not common in readership. It takes one who have either achieved a lot or have experienced a lot to venture into writing his/her autobiography. For this book to have won book of the day, it must have been full of rich experiential information that can enable young readers know what it means or takes to be a real man. Here Butler used his experience with parents, boyhood, career, etc., to explain to his readers what it takes to be a real man. And the reviewer has done a great work in reviewing this book.

Great review! This definitely sounds like an intriguing autobiography. That it is at times sharp and at others not so very politically correct just adds to the realism of the story I think. Thanks so much for sharing.

I'm exactly that person who would like to read a realistic and intriguing book. When I first saw the cover I thought maybe the book could only be read by men but after reading your review I now understand that anyone can read the book and I like your review.

This book sounds like a must read and the fact that the author was in the military makes it better. I understand why some people would be thrown off or uncomfortable with the raw language that is used in the military. At times, I even question the language, but when you experience war some times only raw and at times foul language will due. I also like the cover of the book as a metaphor for the complex maze that he had to traverse in order to become the man he is today.
