Sounds like we finally got ourselves a quality non-fiction book for a change. Won't leave meaningful reply since you're gonna disqualify it anyhow, just wanted you to know that this is most likely my next book to read.

The idea presented in the book is really very important nowadays. And I'm glad that the author managed to write such complicated things in a simple language (according to the review). But unfortunately not simple enough for me. I've tried the sample and I think I'll pass. Congratulation on becoming BOTD!

This book about literacy and orality sounds fascinating, however, it sounds like it is meant only for a certain type of reader. This book discusses the changes in our society and how it will humanity. Congrats on book of the day! Great review.

Literacy and Orality are indispensable to human culture and history. Without these two concepts, society would have most likely not proceeded as far as it currently is. The author's work is an well written work that makes the reader think. Well done.

It sounds like it is not meant for me. The book is very complex and treats a lot of cultural and social subjects. Nice review!

Literacy and Orality

This academic book touches on what is a hot topic across all segments of our population: how is our society, our institutions, our culture and mental development being affected by modern technology, information technology. Well worth the read!

I am very happy to know that there is another liberal arts student on this forum. I am a Human Development major and cultural anthropology was one of my foundation subjects. I like this topic because even though it is complex, we need to talk about it. I think that information technology can cause people to think that they are more connected when they are more fragmented.

This is a very well-written and thoughtful review. After reading the early chapters of the book, I find it to be an interesting and thought-provoking topic. I.T. can certainly provide many advantages for the modern world as well as a downside. The question the reviewer writes: “Are ‘oral’ peoples necessarily unreflective, simple or concrete in their thinking? “ - I would say not necessarily. Socrates a skilled orator would not write anything down and I do not think he would be considered as unreflective or simple. This book sounds like a good read for those that like history, language and anthropology.

Based on the review, I think this book would definitely appeal to me. I would enjoy learning how information technology may impact us politically, economically and in our communication. Anthropology and history are two of my favorite subjects so I am sure this book would provide some valuable insight. This was a very helpful review of difficult subject matter. Well done.

Thank you for your in-depth and comprehensive review! As a philologist, I'll certainly enjoy the book's concepts and philosophy on the role of IT for the post-modern civilization.

While the topic of this book does interest me (information technology affecting orality and literacy), I'm scared that it'll read more like a textbook. I guess I'll check out the free sample. I'm glad you enjoyed it enough to give 4 stars. It seems very well-written and researched. Great job on your nicely worded review!

Interesting read on the cultural effects of technology and literacy. The IT revolution is something that has so much impact and is very relevant to today's society. I would love to read and learn a lot so I added to my want to read shelf.
