I think Thomas had something which most addictive and violent children on the streets don't have and that's love. But I think the environment is what shaped his character in his early years of life. Good review thanks for it. I like the storyline.

It takes immense courage to share one’s own story so I am looking forward to digging into this novel to be enlightened about childhood trauma and be more empathic. How Tom was able to forgive those who have hurt him and still able to rise through all the abuses he was subjected to takes is amazing.

I am very impressed that this online book club nominates emotionally-heavy books like these to be the book of the month. I love when books talk about the hard things that we as humans do not want to talk about in our society. I also like that the author was so honest and vulnerable to his readers when discussing traumatic events that happened in his early years. I applaud the author for being so willing and so open to others around him.

This book is the author's autobiography. I'm not a fan of autobiographies, but it would be interesting to see the struggles, pains, and dysfunctional childhood upbringing he suffered in the first twenty years of his life. Congrats on the BOTD.

Is it just me or does anyone else thinking that this picture on the cover looks like the one taken for criminal record? To be honest, it quite able to scare me away from reading it, even if I would have been inclined to non-fiction autobiography about less than happy life. Unfortunately, I will have to pass this one. Still, congrats on BOTD!

I think this kind of memoirs are useful to also understand how people can change. However, something important should be to also acnkowledge that remorse is not the only thing needed, you should also take responsibility on your acts. That is needed for change. Thanks for your review. It was very clear and detailed.

When Life Doesn't Turn Out the Way We Hoped I t would ~ is an Autobiographical Book of Tom Wick telling the story of his childhood struggles, twists and turns, pains, and dysfunctional childhood life. Ups and downs with the family circle.

The likes of his father more than the other siblings, being subjected to physical, emotional and sexual abuse. The thought how children can overcome a difficult childhood tramas and still turn out successfully is rather astounding.

It is always sad when a person has a difficult childhood because it affects how they perceive the world. But this book would be beneficial for people who have struggled with substance abuse. Great review

An inspiring memoir about surviving a dysfunctional family and an abusive childhood, and subsequently overcoming the substance abuse born out of his past trauma. Great review.

Autobiographies are always a delightful read for me. This sounds like there'll be a lot to learn and to imagine what he must have had to go through. I'd sure want to find out for myself. Thanks for a detailed review.

The book cover reminds me of old movies for some reason. Anyways, this autobiography narrates Tom Wick's journey into and out of drug and alcohol addiction. His story seems to be one that can impact the lives of people who may suffer something similar to what he suffered.
