Your review is very intriguing, Mutai! I sampled the first story, about Pineapple Sam, a.k.a. Ismael, coming to life in Hawaii. Like you, I found it captivating, and I agree that the book deserves all the stars you gave it.

Even the title of this book is captivating. A book having a mixture of fun, mischief, adventure, and even war trials will be very interesting to read. Congratulations on BOTD!

It seems exciting to read about the adventures of people who liked fun and mischief, such as Ismael and his brother Hank. The mystery of the lady with the ivory dress that scared them is curious.

I love a book of adventures, and everything in the book seemed to satisfy that part of me. Reading Sam's childhood was very relatable, and the writing was well paced. And just as you noted, the marine corps experience was my best part of the book.

It seems like a book filled with a mix of excitement, humor, and thought-provoking moments.Your mention of the book's ability to tackle various issues, including Sam's experiences in the U.S. Marine Corps and the challenges faced by soldiers during the Vietnam War, adds depth to the narrative. I don't like reading non-fiction, because after several tries I figured out that this type of biography and memoir can hardly be called easy reading. Then again, how many people are blessed with a carefree life? We all have our tragedies and suffering, small and big, so I see no need to share them with the public. Apologies, I prefer to pass the book, but still congrats on BOTD!

I love memoirs because the author gets to tell their life experience how they lived them and be able to add their own spices to lighten the mood. And it seems like the author did exactly that. I wonder what the incident was when the kids were scared. I love how how through you were analysing the book. I am not familiar with the Pidgin English, so I think I will also have a challenge reading it.
‘When you do a good deed, people are grateful, and that creates a nice feeling inside you; and then because it feels good, that makes you want to do more good deeds. That repetition is the cycle of goodness.’
