A nostalgic personal account of growing up back in the days. The writer finely narrates moving to a new place as a young man together with his family and making new friends both at school and neighborhood. Trying to fit in at school and not bring too much attention unto himself. Having to make academic decisions under the gentle guidance of school authorities. An easy flowy read.

I'm not into memoirs so the book is not for me. What a great mother James has though, teaching her children to love and not discriminate.

This book sounds like a good memoir as the author is honest in telling his story.
Though am not a fan of memoirs,

I have read a few memoirs about teens being drafted into the Vietnam War, and I was heartbroken when I read what some of these men did to get out of the draft. This memoir looks like a great fit for readers who want to know more about the 60s and the events of that time. Thanks for the review!

Congratulations on BOTD Zee_Zee. Your review expressed well-deserved admiration for the authors candid recollections of his life.
The author wrote about his life with an endearing freeness that was heartwarming. He wrote stuff about himself that many people would have considered too embarrassing to share.

I appreciate that you highlighted the socio economic status of African Americans in America, and how responsible parenting can contribute to ending the perpetuation of racism. I enjoyed reading your review and now have the impression that the book is well worth reading. Thank you.

I lived good good personal stories! This sounds like it will make a good read, thanks for the review. I like how you say: “ He came across as a blunt, practical young man who couldn't care less about the fanfares of life.”

I'm not overly fond of biographies except if it is a truly inspiring story. I like the fact the author incorporated humour into his stories. I think this could be a good book to read if you like memoirs. Thank you for a great review.

Looks like the author does not pull any punches in his biography. The fact that he can take some instances that some people may consider demeaning and speak lightly of it shows character. His unbiased way of telling it as it is is refreshing and I'd love to get my hands on this one. Kudos to the reviewer on outlining the book perfectly. Great job.

I'm really looking forward to picking this book up! I'm usually not a big fan of memoirs, but one set in the 60s sounds very intriguing. I love the way the reviewer has incorporated the personalised tone of the writer's writing style in the review. Definitely a catch!

The review is beautiful. I love how the book stressed about racism and I think people should really imitate James Mother...Thanks to James H Morgan.
