An inspirational biography "Near the Danube Bridge" by Catherine Allen-Walters, which follows Kalman's earliest and most complex decisions was to choose between Evangelical and Seventh-day Adventist.

A hearty story revolving arpund religion. From the review, the story appears interesting with suspense made at the start of the story to create anxiety among the readers.

I love historical fiction, especially set during the world wars. And I wonder if the main character chose the Seventh day Adventist faith because I know they were persecuted by the Nazi regime.

It must be difficult for a child to choose between his father's and mother's religions. The child may feel they're choosing one parent over the other. Sometimes children embrace a totally different religion. War is devastating and I admire the men and women who fought bravely and stuck to their principles. Thank you for your informative review.

Your review is very interesting, Joule! I sampled this book, and I agree that this family history involving persecution for faith and escape from Yugoslavia, is an appealing read for memoir fans.

This shows how Kalman’s daughter was touched to write on how people on WW2 lived with their faith they agreed to be tortured but still they stand with their beliefs as we see How Kalman did.

Thank you for your information and enriching review.
Near the Danube Bridge by Catherine-Allen Walters captures my interest in that it is a family biography concerning the Hartigs and Kirchners and the resiliency of Kalman, in particular, in terms of his faith, despite experiencing years of imprisonment and persecution. This read sounds worth the turn of each page, etched with bitter-sweet and thought- provoking moments , set in dark and tense moments of history. I appreciate that the despite the struggles encountered by the family members, the message brought to the forefront is ultimately the value of never giving up.

Every time I come across such stories from the 90s about the massacre of Christians, I always get a shiver running through my veins because it's scary to even think about it, let alone read about it. Sincerely speaking, I have never understood why people would kill each other just because of religion. It's just sickening and sad with all the genocide and mass killings.

Thank you for your descriptive review on "Near the Danube Bridge" by Catherine Allen-Walters. The story spans Europe and North America, tracing over three generations of two families from the eras of world wars. Kalman, the book's protagonist, is an exemplary figure not only to his offspring but to readers too. His resiliency and firm hold on his faith are worth being emulated. It amazed me how he didn't give up despite years of imprisonment and persecution, hoping for the best. Your review has piqued my interest in reading this book so I have put it on my shelf. Congratulations to the author for BOTD.

It sounds like "Near the Danube Bridge" is a deeply moving and well-researched family biography that highlights both historical events and personal resilience. Your mention of Kalman's unwavering faith and determination, even in the face of imprisonment and persecution, truly resonates. The inclusion of historical context, such as WW2 and immigration laws, adds a rich layer to the narrative. The orderly flow of events and the addition of photos and letters seem to bring the story to life, making it both an emotional and inspirational read. Thank you for the detailed review; it has definitely piqued my interest in this remarkable story.
