I also battled with depression when I was younger, but I was never diagnosed. It's important to bring awareness about the actually symptoms of depression and how it shouldn't be taken light of. Some still believe that depressed people should just learn to smile. It's a lot more complicated than that.

Anyway, I would really like to read this book. Why is it called "It's My Party"?

Thanks for the review! I feel like anybody reading this, whether they have experienced the horrors of depression or not, would immediately start growing to understand the author as she delves into her fight against the illness. I'm glad to hear that you enjoyed the book so much, especially since I found myself enjoying it even from the first few pages alone.

I have mixed feelings writing this. As much as I want to read the book, because of the amazing review I have just read, I do not agree with anything the review says.
Depression is such a complicated illness, that anyone can have, that I hope people will find this book, read it, and use it to both understand what they are going through and find the strength to find the help they need; strength comes in many ways.
The sample I read, made me suffer. Not because I was able to feel what Jeannette Watson was feeling, but because I couldn't, we all know a sample isn't long, isn't the book, but what I like most about it was that it had pictures, pictures that helped me connect with the author, with the family, with everything they were feeling and living.
The review is amazing, it made me want to read the book and preach about it, maybe I can help someone struggling with depression, the book itself made me mad.

I find it great that instead of hiding in the shadows and suffering with what many would stigmatize, this author has come forward to share her story of depression to help others. It sounds like she did a great job writing this.

Today's BOTD draws awareness to the issue of mental illness, with a focus on depression. The author's ability to connect with the reader is impressive - being informative while giving hope and light to those who can relate. It sounds like a wonderful read that has the potential to help many individuals through the telling of her own personal experiences. Thank you so much for your wonderful review!

:Sumptuous review I must type, to type the least. The electrifying thing depicts in this book is the fact that depression is relatable to every human sphere not minding class, caste and privileges in life to mention but a few.

I read the entire sample, and while it read well, it didn't draw me in. There was no hint as to what was to come in the rest of the memoire, and it really just seemed like a play-by-play of a very wealthy family from the 50's. The writing is good, but I would probably not read more.

The book is extraordinarily funny in parts. The author has a wicked sense of humor about herself and the situation she was born into. The discussion of her ensuing depression is poignant, not depressing. It is a triumphant book. An example of the human spirit rising to the occasion and overcoming. Much can be learned here.

It is nice to see a book about depression. I feel like this is a common disease in our time and it is comforting to read about how other people dealt with it. Thank you for the review!

The title of this book" It's my Party" tells a lot about the authors extra depression to be herself and do her own things and not necessarily following the dictates of others. It is a problem many of us face, not believing that no one is insinuating ill of us.

Depression is a strong battle we have to tackle so that people can be set free of its devastation. Many individuals indulge in social vices because they could not manage their difficult times properly.

Depression is a serious illness and many people can relate either experiencing themselves or through a friend or family member. I added this book to my want to read shelf and am very interested in reading how the author overcomes depression. Very interesting life the author has experienced based on your review.

Thanks for your review. As I read the first chapter I could tell there was a bit of sadness in the writing. I have had friends with signs of depression and I did not know it, so I would like to learn from this. I like reading fictional books about it and I feel this memoir is intense but with good descriptions of the illness and how it affects life around those who suffer from it.

Thank you for this review. I agree that the author gives the reader some hints at what lies ahead in her sample chapter. I was immediately swept into this story, it is interesting to read about the life experiences of other human beings. I can’t relate at all to the wealth, but the human interactions are familiar.
Your review has further strengthened my wanting to read the entire book.
You gave just enough of the plot away to further pique my interest, but not so much that I feel like I don’t need to read it. My life has also been touched by depression, and I know what it feels like to have a depressed parent. I will read this book.
Thank you for your official review.
