This book does sound eye-opening. I wouldn't have guessed it was a book laden with life and relationship lessons in addition to business growth. The humour infused in the mix makes it all the more enticing. I'd already marked it as "not interested" but the review has made me reconsider. Thanks for sharing.

I think this is a book I'll be able to relate to in ways because my parents owned their own business that my mom ran for 7yrs and it was an already established business she bought and took over. Though she started from the beginning only keeping the name and built counters and shelves, adding plumbing and electrical in the back room/office, and brought in all new merchandise. Previous customer had to adapt to the change, and we lost some because we changed the merchandise and carried different brands. While my mom worked 3 out of the 4 days open & my dad 1, I ran the store on the 4th day alone along with the day both my parents were there I worked. And while she did things different then the previous owner, I did think differently then my mom. Unfortunately due to the internet, we couldn't compete to their sales & lower prices and sales dropped off and we went out of business. So I know about a family ran business and everyone helping to run the business and the household. I know the pride & joy it can bring, along with the pain & struggles. So I'm actually interested in reading this book. Thanks for the wonderful review.

Sounds interesting. Its really surprising that we can learn a lot from a furniture maker while we know nothing about furniture making. Good luck to the author 👍

Thank you for your review! How many compound sentence errors did you notice? I ask because the current book I am reading has so many that I do not think it was professionally edited and should affect the rating.

The story flows smothly and the author's conversational style is relaxing and inviting potential readers to get to know the story of his family's furniture business. However, for me, the things he recounts are too predictable and fit too much the perfect American dream stereotype. I appreciate him for wanting to leave a legacy behind and share some important values of his family, though. Thanks for a wonderful review!

A very interesting read indeed. Who would have thought a book about furniture would be this interesting. The title may not be as catchy as one might expect. However, all that changes once you get into the story. Nice review.

I have not read the book yet but this review has given me a lot of insight of what is to come. I am already feeling a connection to this book because I come from a big family myself, I am the third of ten. Also, I love hearing stories about family owned business surviving when other businesses didn’t.

This sounds like an endearing true story full of wisdom and lessons learned from a lifetime of hard work. Downloaded my copy already and looking forward to giving this one a go - I’m a fan of memoirs in general and it sounds like this is a well written one!

I have read the story of the book Call of the Couch by Larry Schneiderman. This is a book fit for the business men and co workers. The summary is fully explained to the extent which is appropriate for the guidance of the people in the market of sales, enterprises, and management.

Nice humor filled family story book "Call of the Couch" by Larry Schneiderman, which is about the furniture business started by Larry's parents and continued after Larry began to take responsibility of it and began tweaking some of its old business policies, and annoying his parents. Everyone in Larry's family is expected to fulfill a role by either working at home or at the store. The story sounds quite appealing to read.

I never have been a big fan of memoirs or business books, but I might ave to make an exception for this book. It sounds really interesting. I think its really awesome that you had a personal connection to the novel having seen the business's commercial before. Thank you for the review!

For a family business to have lasted over 70 years, they had to have been doing something right. I got the impression that the most important lesson was to deal with customers and associates with honesty. I got a definite "do unto others" vibe. Your review was well-written and informative. Thank you. 💕

This was a dynamic review of Call of the Couch. It shows how going into to business can be overwhelming and time consuming. It gives a sense of quantity and quality simply stating you can buy what you need in large bulks or you can choose quality spending wisely. It details what goes into running a business and how much of the owner's time is spent and the role the family play's in all of this. It is a good review and it gives an indication that this is a perfect book to read if one is thinking about starting their own business. If that thought ever crossed my mind this would be my go to book. Larry Schneiderman totally touch on all the basics in this book, according to this reviewer.
