Changing locations due to one reason or the other can be tasking; especially when one is moving in with a family . Such is the case with Gregory and his family. The family are hopeful of finding better opportunities in America. But do they know what the future holds?

Thank you for your review. I am curious why the father felt he had to put his children in foster care. From the little bit I read, he loved his children very much. I am going to add this to my list of books to read. I found it nice that Maria's son felt he needed to tell this story. I'm sure he is very proud of his mother.

This is a true life story with themes of desperate struggles and resilience I can relate to and thoroughly enjoy. Even though I'm not an immigrant, my grandmother is.

I like the storyline of this book. The theme of forgiveness is long due for discussion. I'm still trying to wrap my head around the fact that people face or of things in their quest for greener pastures.

This story I must say is a sad one. The separation of families is the worst thing that could ever happen to families. I hope they reunite again.

The theme of forgiveness despite the damage and pain someone has caused is inspiring. Not everyone is able to forgive. I'm happy to know that this is the story of healing and coming into happiness and love. Thank you for a great review!

With my personal experience with Diaspora I am excited to read this novel.
I was an adolescent when I was removed from my ancestral homeland, so I anticipate being able to relate to the young male character. I didn't have a step parent so I hope to learn more about mixed families and from a child's perspective.
I have an affinity for coming of age stories so I know I'll thoroughly enjoy one where the Mother is a main character, too! I don't know if I have ever read one like that before.

If the Gregories couldn't have predict the future I believe they wouldn't have to migrate. Sometimes the future is unpredictable but we need to always be strong to face our fears.

"Beyond the Clouds, the Sky is Blue" is a true life story about a family of seven that lived in Puerto Rico and Gregory the dad decides that they need to move to the United States for greener pastures. Gregory received an offer for employment to work at a plantation and he insisted the family needed to move to take the job. The family adjusted to life in the U.S. until tradgedy struck and the five children ended up in foster homes. The mom, Maria, set one goal, to reunite her children and live as a family again. One needs to read the book to find out what happens to the Ortiz family and if Maria, later called Mary, brings her children back to her home. The book was written by Dennis Santos, one of the five children, and it is well written and focuses on their hardships as well as forgiveness between the family members. I am putting this book on my to-read list.

First of all, the title of this book really touched me and then the plot touched me more. Truly, beyond the clouds, the sky will always be blue. What a masterpiece! I feel very emotional reading the review of the book and I'm surely going to read the book too. Thanks to the author for free copies. Congratulations on BOTD

Migrating to another country itself can be challenging for a family but getting teared apart due to a tradegy is a traumatic experience especially for kids who get relocated to Forster homes and then get treated badly. I feel for the Ortiz kids. I would love to find out whether Maria succeeded in uniting her family. Adding to my tbr. congrats on BOTD.
