Unfortunately for the author, your review is more likely to pique my interest in researching the topic of adding spices for health benefits, and less likely to get me to buy the "book". Hopefully, the author can take your words to heart, put in a little more research, and expand the essay into a full-length book.

Yeah... I think that's why books titled "Discover the Benefits of Apple Cider Vinegar" and such never sell. I mean, you learn what you need to know from the title: that apple cider vinegar is healing/healthy, whatever. I really think the author should expand upon this and write a huge glossary of spices and their benefits. Then people would want to buy it as a reference.

I agree, an exhaustive reference on herbs and spices would be much better, even exotic or less-common spices. These have been used medicinally for thousands of years, but western medicine tends to pooh-pooh the whole idea. We should be able to find a balanced, mutually respectful balance between natural and synthetic treatments/remedies/medicines.
