You’ve perfectly described the journey that Patti takes us on, and the importance of learning to accept life's unpredictability. I especially appreciate how you have highlighted the book’s focus on the power of acceptance and unconditional love, and how the entire family grew and developed due to Chris’s presence. Like you, I found her writing style and tone to be incredibly engaging, and that she has a unique way of communicating her inner world to the reader.

Definitely not my cup of tea, like everything else that has anything to do with illness, hospitals and all medical issues related even to the slightest. Sorry, but I really don't have it in me to read or watch anything similar and will have to skip the book. Congrats with BOTD, anyway!

"Unexpected Lessons From Professor Higgins" is authored by Patti Smith. It is the story of a man named Christopher who was born with Down syndrome. His mother's journey from grief to pride in her son is beautifully described. Your review is also balanced and informative. Congratulations on being declared 'BOTD'; it fully deserves it.

Interesting testimony about how our children are placed in our lives to help teach us the importance of empathy.

This book is a special shootout to all the special needs children and their loved ones. It's challenging enough doing life at optimum level. When you're disadvantaged by virtue of a disease, it's a completely different kettle of fish. This book is a reminder of our collective responsibility to children with special needs, specifically Down's syndrome.

"Unexpected Lessons from Professor Higgins" by Patti Smith is a wonderful story about a women’s love for her child born with Down Syndrome. Patti learned from her son Chris and faced what society says about children with Down Syndrome. The family she created was exceptional. Unconditional love is so obvious in the relationship Patti has with Chris. I have friends that have on daughter with Down Syndrome and two children that are normal and I saw the love between parents and their daughter. Seeing life through a different lens perfectly describes Patti, her husband and Chris who had siblings that were wonderful and totally loved him. This book brings tears to one’s eyes. It is wonderful and the display of unconditional love was incredible and heart warming.

This story truly makes my view about mother change, until I didn't knew that parents can literally endure anything for their children.
The writer has done a perfect and seamless
Job defining the unbreakable bond between
Parents and their blood.

I'm happy when I see someone who transforms life's challenges to a learning and teaching experience that impacts others. It couldn't have been easy for the mother or the son, and the family, especially in a marginalized society..

This book gives readers awareness about Down syndrome. One gets to read about how the son adjusts to life that isn't quite accommodating to those with Down's syndrome and also about the bond between a mother and son.
