From a sampling, this seems like an interesting autobiographical account of a man who grew up in a household where he experienced a lot of violence and then faces some violence when he joins the armed forces. It might be worth a second look. Well done.

I love it when people who have suffered trauma and/or abuse have the courage to overcome it and then write about it. He overcame addiction, as well. This book will help other victims overcome their own traumas or addictions. Thank you for the review, and many thanks to Mr. Wick. He is an extraordinary human being.

It's interesting to find that people who went through physical, emotional and sexual abuses are finding their voices and telling their stories. It's heartwarming to see that despite all his mother did to him, the author found a place in his heart to forgive her.

Great review.

This is a very profound book that explores alcoholism and abuse (physical and sexual) as they both occur in a family. The author exposes his life to his readers in a very open way which can truly be appreciated.

He first gives an in-depth historical account of his family's ancestors. I found this to be a bit too extreme but once this part is over the plot really takes off.

The reader will see the author being exposed to alcoholic parents who do not really pay much attention to him. The worst scene however is when the author vividly describes how his older brother would sexually abuse him.

On this basis, I will recommend this boom for persons aged 18 years and older. Sensitive readers also need to be aware of the fact that this book has a number of graphic scenes and some profanity.

I think this particular book would not only register with people struggling with addiction, but it would also resonate with those who grew up in similar circumstances. Addiction is a nasty thing for anyone near it. Great review.

To have faced such seemingly insurmountable hurdles and come out triumphant is an inspiration on its own. I am adding the book to my shelf. Thanks for the review.

The author went through hellish childhood growth under the hateful hands of his older siblings. His childhood was traumatic, can't imagine how it felt to be ordered to do that sexual act by his brother. But, he found in his heart the need to forgive and re-forgive his siblings though it's never easy including forgetting those acts done against him.

The abused will be the abuser unless someone or something stops the cycle. I am curious what was Tom's turning point that made him change for the better. Thanks for the wonderful review.

The unimaginable cruelty by the author's brother, sister, and mother is heartbreaking. I wish there was some way to remove the cruelty genes so we could live in peace and harmony. Great review!
