Thank you for your detailed and thoughtful review of Rochelle Brandon's book. I completely agree with your points about how empowering and practical her advice is for teenage girls. The exercises like diaries and self-portraits seem especially effective in helping teens express themselves and build confidence. While I also think the book might feel a bit lengthy at times, its overall message is powerful, and it could be a valuable resource in school libraries or classrooms. Your suggestion about including pictures for younger readers is a great idea to keep them engaged.

Thank you for the review. I agree that teenage girls like their diaries and wall posters. This is definitely a way for them to develop their likes and dislikes. Having quiet time to vent their feelings by writing them down has soothed many teens suffering the cruel aspects of growing up. This book offers parents valuable insights on how to listen and give guidance to their teenagers. When teenagers need advice and parents are not open and available to their children, they will get their advice from other sources, which can be dangerous. :tiphat:

Thank you for your honest review. I did like how the author wrote it simply and explained everything without making it "babyish". Boys along with girls have a difficult time of it in their teenage years. Some of these things are the same and some are different. I have added it to my list of books to read.

Congratulations on making it to the BOTD!
I for one don't only recommend this book for just teenagers, per my understanding of the review, the book specifically targets troubled teenagers especially girls.
The book "Shine" by Rochelle Brandon, MD. should also be read by parents as well, for it provides guidance which could be helpful to them with their troubled children in their teens.

The adolescent years are indeed quite difficult, especially as the youngsters are under constant scrutiny from themselves and their peers. I am sure this book will be immensely helpful! Thanks for the awesome review!

Although the review's opening sentence made it sound like the adolescent stage and experience is some kind of cruelty or torment to suffer, not all teen experiences are about pain. I believe that early excellent foundational training is fundamental to helping one's teen/adolescent have a memorably wholesome teen age.
This is what "Shine" by Rochelle Brandon, MD provides - the counsel on helping your teen scale through the challenges of teen ages.

Self-esteem, self-jugdement, to name a few, is unfortunately reality and something teens don't always know how to deal with. So this might be a very helpful book. Thanks for an interesting review. Congrats on BOTD.

I'm unlikely to read this; as a 55yo gay man with only nephews in my family, I don't have any need to read about self-help for teenage girls. However, this is their formative years and many struggle to cope with puberty and entering an adult world. This book will certainly help those to understand what's going on around them and that they're not alone.

Thank you for the discerning review of "Shine" by Rochelle Brandon, MD. From the sample and your review I realize the book has value for teens, not just girls, although a separate book might be best for each gender. I love that the prose included many affirming words, phrases and practices for teens. The practical use of these guiding words and they way the teen brain works seem to mesh nicely and I believe this book can be an excellent guide for a less stress-filled teen. Practices include self-talk, journaling, drawing, diaries and more.

I have read some great reviews about this book. Unfortunately, this book is not geared toward me so I'm going to pass on it. The fact that the author's message is one to uplift and inspire young girls is amazing.
