Sometimes we are faced with difficulties of knowing how God speaks to us. God means many things to so many people. Generally, we call Him our Father but based on personal encounter who is God to you. Do you want to discover God? Or do you know Him generally but no personal relationship with Him? Hank Acker has provided us with some simple suggestions on how to know God through his self-help book titled Discover God.

Discover God is a short novel of only ten pages with bullet points on how to experience God. It starts by acknowledging that God exists, and you are not Him. Hank explained to the reader how understanding relates to believing in God. Furthermore, he provided a modest suggestion on how to apprehend God. Hank went on to explain the benefits of discovering God. He addressed fears, burdens, and how to speak with God in your own words and feelings. Also, Hank provided some simple prayer suggestions on how to confront our fears. He explained one of the key points of hearing from God – Listening.

I admire the fact that this book dwells on getting to know God and not religious doctrines. The author’s tone of writing is appealing and simple. Also, I enjoyed the free online devotional link he suggested for daily devotion. The prayers Hank suggested are passionate. There are so much to learn from this short non-fictional novel. One will learn some amazing attributes of God. The Hymns in the book are intriguing. It revitalizes one’s spirit.

In as much as I like this book, I would have admired it if Hank included one or two Bible verses. I understand the fact that Hank does not want to restrict the book to Christians only. Maybe that’s why he wrote it with easy words without any reference to the Bible or religious doctrine. Notwithstanding, I enjoyed and agreed with all the points in the book.

Therefore, I rate Discover God 3 out of 4 stars. I only deducted one star for the lack of Bible verses. In understanding God, one needs to belong to a religious body and not doctrine. It is in that religion that you will learn more about God. For instance, in Christianity, the only way to understand Him is through His word, the Bible. The book is well edited. I found only one punctuation error which did not distract me from enjoying the book. I would recommend this book to anyone that wants to know more about God. The truth is that we are finding God for our own sake.

It is beautiful that the author dwells on getting to know God over doctrines as that is the most important. Excellent review.

My take from this amazing novel will be the attributes of God and how to pray. I think the non-doctrinal approach the author applies, will also be a positive thing about the book. Thanks for the wonderful review.

This sounds like a great book and it was a great review. A 10 page book oh and getting closer to God, seems about right. So many books written on how to be closer to God gets bogged down in a lot of scripture and peoples personal believes. That is where we all went wrong when we started believing other peoples Version of religion. Your relationship with God should be yours and only original to you. You become closer to God through his words so I must agree they should have had some Bible verses, but in this day and age of not wanting to exclude the weirdest among us I understand why he kept it strictly to God. Muslims believe in God, Jews believe in God and Christians believe in God so this book might help all those groups. Great review!
