"Big things have small beginnings: Learn to play the great game" by business expert Wes Berry.
Wes Berry's book Big things have small beginnings is a play by play on what is required to play the great game of business.
Berry demonstrates how he took his family's flower business from earning 60 thousand a year to earning 60 Million a year. Berry tells readers how the small things add up to big things and how this information will determine how they play the great game of business and life. Berry shows readers how to manage a successful business large or small as he tells the story of his success.
I rate this book 4 out of 4 stars even though the military stories did not appeal to me. However, they did make valid points on how little things matter in business. One of Berry's mentors gave him some advice I found very useful about setting goals and then visualize them also carry them with you. One quote in particular I liked is "when you take care of the little stuff, the big stuff has a really nice way of taking care of itself." Berry does reveal how the small things can add up to big success.
Berry does give wonderful advice on identifying and hiring the right people and his take on it is very unique. The information is powerful. I have never heard of some of the methods he uses to hire people who he thinks will contribute to the success of his company. Berry tells the story of a message to Garcia a very interesting message and I can see why he is inspired by it. Berry explains how he uses this information to help him identify future employees who he thinks will be best suited for the job he is hiring for.
The greatest appeal for me was how there was a positive spin on all of it. Berry says" this book is not about failing this book is about preventing, limiting, and continually overcoming the small failures and obstacles." I would agree the author has demonstrated very well how he has done just that in his business. Berry also mentions The Secret which I have read and very much enjoyed he tells how he uses the knowledge for business. Berry speaks about the best way to handle and overcome adversity. This book is inspirational and has great information on running a successful business. Berry writes " it is up to us-to you and me-to decide our own destiny." I wholeheartedly agree!
