Finding A Job in Tough Times, by Dr. Tim Johnson, communicates principles in the form of a plan for job seekers to enable them to get their desired jobs. It provides some tips that'll help them to get hired fast. The author presents practical questions and assigns readers exercises. To get the most out of his lessons, he expects readers to attempt the exercises. He states that "No one gives you a life. You make decisions about where and with whom you are involved." I agree with him.

Consisting of 161 pages, this guidebook comprises practical steps that would be effective if followed. It's clear and captivating. The author's tone is conversational, and the lessons are simple and well organized. The provided questions are easy to answer, and the exercises are appealing. Containing some personal stories and real-life illustrations, the book is engaging and very relatable. In addition, it's written chiefly for job seekers. Therefore, if you're not interested in information on job hunting, you may want to pass it.

Providing step-by-step instructions for both those that already have work experience and those who don't, this book provides exercises concerning self-description, describing your favorite person, feelings, the past, negatives, personal interview, skills for the graduate, skills for the worker, identifiable traits, life assessments, job comparison, expansion plans, affirmation action, priorities, making friends, leadership examples, first contact, career analysis, my serendipity experiment, reaching out to friends, bringing change to a relationship, scheduling your life, keyword finder, résumé writing and editing, your last job, questions for the interviewer, feedback, soliciting advice, and so forth.

Furthermore, according to Johnson, a résumé is a platform for what one can become. Hence, he tells about creating a résumé that works for and presents you in a positive manner for further review. He highlights some things you must not do during an interview and proposes what you should do instead. Again, he gives his website address where he has established means for interested readers to attend lectures in person or via video conferencing.

Altogether, I rate Finding A Job in Tough Times 4 out of 4 stars. I didn't rate it lower because I enjoyed reading it. It's written in a fascinating and comprehensible way, and it contains some unique ideas that'll help one to get a job fast. Moreover, it was well edited; I noticed just two grammatical errors. It'll be useful for fresh graduates and skilled workers looking for jobs.

Even when it's not a "tough time" it's hard to find a job. I know. So, this sounds like it could be very useful. I'm definitely going to have to look at this one more. Thanks!

Times of crisis often limit people's prospects and force them to seek alternatives, positive or negative. Navigating an already complicated world like the job market while everything seems to be falling apart is a herculean task that can lead one to ask some incisive questions about the system as a whole and why these things happen. Regardless, an individual can only do their best if they hope to survive, so books like these are of course a valuable resource. Thanks for the review!

I appreciated that opening quote that you included in your review. "No one gives you a life." The author touches on many different topics that reinforce that quote. This looks like an informative and useful book to have on hand. Thanks for the recommendation!

I'm skeptical that another self help book can actually help anyone get a job, but if he offers actual exercises to try I think I may have to get this book and see if it helps. I have been struggling for a long time to get a job so a step by step guide written by someone who knows how hard it is may be worth a look.

If I had this book in my hand 20 years ago, I might got the better job that I'd wished for. But instead, I wanna thanks, that, something better happened. I became an Entrepreneur, which everybody's wishing for. No boss, no Bundy clock, and you can print your own income. Interesting review. Thanks.
