Different Family Structures by Mildred Stallworth is aptly named. It is a book that tells about the various structures of the family unit. This book centers on the inner essence of each type of family unit. The explanations help readers to understand the circumstances that can cause single parent, or foster parent families, among many other models. It also draws attention to the positive elements that can make these families work for everyone involved.

Although Mildred Stallworth is precise in her cataloging and assessment of structures and purposes of the family in every form, this book is not just a glossary of terms. It offers examples of family types and styles of parenting that are backed up by proofs of the wellbeing exhibited within family life. The illustrations provide images of the families as they are referenced in the text.

I liked the quotes that the author occasionally used to reinforce the points of each discussion. Spoken by well-known figures, one of the highlights for me reads, “What children need most are the essentials that grandparents provide in abundance. They give unconditional love, kindness, patience, humor, comfort, lessons in life, and most importantly, cookies.” -Rudolph Giuliani

I enjoyed this author’s writing style. The way that the author addressed each type of group indicated a level of caring that I found commendable. It shows that family is held in high regard, and I appreciated the depth that it gave this book.

This book is suited to include everyone in its measuring of supportive groups. In listing the wealth of different characteristics, it demonstrates the effectiveness of each configuration. By recording the positive points, it reinforces the good things that can come from the best components. Readers are well aware of any negatives involved. The author showed consideration even when mentioning some of the adverse outcomes from lack of family support in a child’s life. Overall, the message that resonates in this book is how crucial positive communication is for children.

It was the quality of structured positivity that I liked most about this book. Even though the author mentions God briefly, I believe this book suits anyone regardless of their religion or lack thereof. It will appeal the most to people with children who value a secure family unit, no matter what shape or configuration it may take.

I found nothing at all to dislike in this book. It seems to be edited exceptionally well. The one error I saw was minor and did not affect the flow of the book. For these reasons, I am rating this book with 4 out of 4 stars. I recommend it to anyone who would like the perspective of a new look at the basic principles and meaning of a family. If you aren’t interested in the concepts involving the makeup of family structure in today’s age, this book may not be for you.

Fascinating story. Maybe, I should include this to my reading. What this book earn interest to the reader is that it contains some lessons to teach to our future generations the value of love and respects. Also the teaching that could get from the grand parents who showed unconditional love and kindness. Great reviews! Thank you.

I like this book based on the simple fact that it emphasizes the uniqueness and importance of each family structure since the world is changing fast and so is the family structure. Great review.

Have in classrooms. I’m searching for a book now on blended families. As a step mom these things can be hard to navigate. I also tend to recommend books to clients! Thank you.

When I was a foster parent, we had to continuously keep up with training and reading on family issues and the issues kids in foster care might face. This sounds like it might have be a very good book for foster parents to read as part of their training.
