The ultimate guide for the avid Indoorsman by John Driver is a brilliant book for those willing to work hard for their Indoorsman title. Whether you are looking to better equip yourself for an indoor life or if you want to learn what an Indoorsman is, this is the perfect book for you. John’s mastery of the subject makes him the best to teach you the skills of Indoorsmanship with a deep dive into many subjects such as the fundamentals, the Indoors vs Outdoorsman, the greatest dangers of the great indoors, and so on. With excellently written and expertly edited lessons, you too can be an indoors man.
After completing the indooreagram, I discovered that I was a casual Indoorsman. By the end of the book I... well I was still a casual Indoorsman. But don’t let my ignorance of the divine nature of an indoorsman’s life prevent you from picking up this book. From the very beginning, this book is self-aware stating in the introduction, “The point is that someone cares enough to reach out and make a difference in the lives of Indoorsmen everywhere...or at least contribute a few pages to their emergency plan for catastrophic toilet paper outages.” This completely summarises the theme of the book throughout, representing it’s immature but well-written humour.
I thought The Ultimate guide... was outrageously hilarious. It was intensely difficult to put down or know when to stop reading. As a slow, mood reader, I found it pleasantly surprising how little I took a break from this book. The humour was simply an extended ‘Dad joke’ but well-written and presented. I also enjoyed the interactivity. As I aforementioned, there is an indooreagram at the beginning. Where you take a quiz to place yourself on the scale of Indoorsmanship. I truly enjoyed completing and referring to the quiz. I really liked how the author used extreme stereotypes of Americans to greater advance the humour. It made the book so relatable as we each may know ourselves or others to be an Indoors or Outdoorsman. I can not find a single thing I disliked.
As it is such an enjoyable read, I rate this book 4 out of 4 stars. I think it’s a book better suited to adults (of any gender or age) as the humour may be more relatable. I also think that those who often dislike ‘Dad joke’ type humour may want to give this one a miss. This book is a great gag gift for family and friends or perfect for a short humorous read for those of you with little spare time.
