Fearless Thinking, Stress-free living, Guaranteed (Almost) by Purandar A. Amin is non-fiction and a self-help book. A very honest note from the author at the beginning cautions the readers that if they don’t open their mind on what is written in the book, then it’s futile to read it. I want to quote this line from the preface, “Fear lives in our mind, where the stress also starts. Hence, we need to understand the mind to find a solution.” The writing style in the 21 chapters is like letters or a diary written to a friend or the self. It was the writer talking to the readers.

Karmic energy or the law of karma was discussed and so were ego and reincarnation. Each chapter explains a certain topic like proper meditation and how to free yourself from stress or negative energies. After a chapter, there are points to remember, exercises, and “My Notes” section where the reader can write down certain reactions or results from the exercises. The book ended with parting words from the author, which is very sincere.

One must be open-minded to appreciate this book. It’s very easy to read, intelligently written, and the topics and points are well explained. Errors were minimal and unnoticeable if you’re not looking for it. If you are going to do the exercises, I recommend writing notes about the instructions or make a voice recording so that you can listen to the instructions while doing the exercises. For the exercises to work, you should believe in the process and do it faithfully. Read the instructions carefully and take time doing it.

I like everything about the book from the easy to read discussions up to the well explained exercises and pages provided to take down the notes. If not only for the expensive courier fee, I would want a printed copy of this book for myself and copies for my friends. Mr. Amin stated in the preface that the book is about his journey in finding what matters most to him and his rediscovery of himself, but I was disappointed that I did not read any story about it. That is the only thing I did not like about the book. All the chapters were discussions aiming to free the self from stress and understanding one’s self.

I would recommend this book to open-minded people who can believe in things like reincarnation, karma, spirituality, and things without scientific explanations. The points of the author make sense, which might be incredulous to some. To be free from stress, you need to know yourself, go deeper within your being, and let love and peace reign in your life. So this might not work for everybody and can’t be recommended for people who have different religious beliefs, or who rely on scientific explanations or rationales.

I rate this book 4 out of 4 stars. I think it all makes sense and would read it again without the pressure of a deadline. I’m very eager to try the exercises which can be challenging at first, but with practice and persistence, it can become a habit and part of one’s life. The book acknowledged that stress can’t be avoided, but one can handle it peacefully and with love.
