Finding a job is definitely difficult especially to those who do not have any work experience. In fact even those who already have work experience may still have difficulties in finding a job because of so many factors to consider. Finding a job in tough times by Dr. Timothy M. Johnson helps one overcome the difficulties in finding a job. Dr. Johnson, like any other, also experienced hard times in finding a job.

The book is like a workbook that helps the readers evaluate their selves to identify the things that need to be developed in them. To get the most out of this book, the readers must answer the exercises provided. There are principles introduced in the book that are necessary in order to beat the odds in finding a job. The book is not a novel. While reading the book, I felt like I was in a class doing some seat work that my teacher asks me to do. Nonetheless, the ideas and principles provided will definitely help the readers find a job.

I like the part when the author said “when the professor was a young man and unemployed, he too was searching for work”. The statement made me realize that with the exception of the few, most people had experienced the challenging process of getting a job. Many were able to feel the anxiety while waiting for a call telling that you are hired, only to find out that you were not hired, and you don’t know the reason why you were not chosen.

The school teaches lessons but it doesn’t really prepare one for life, rather, it prepares you for a career. This book is very significant as it introduces ideas and principles that may not have been taught in school, or at least remind you of those principles. It also provides ways how to effectively sell one’s self to the prospective employer and tips on answering interviews.

This book is for those who want to learn about the strategies and the things necessary in finding a job. The book is recommended for the fresh graduates and even for those who already have work experience who may have a plan of finding another job in the future. The book is well-edited and I didn’t find any typo error. I could not find anything to dislike about the book. Because of the reasons mentioned above, I rate the book 4 out of 4.
