As an ESL student, do you get confused with common English sayings? If so, this book is a great resource for you! This book will help you understand the meaning of each idiom. As well as equip you with language skills needed for success in the English language.

Idiom Attack is a great resource for ESL students. This book is packed with 300+ idioms and organized into 25 chapters. The idioms used throughout the book are most commonly used in the English language. I believe students will find this book to be helpful when diving into all of the different ways the English language is used. You will notice that each chapter has the idiom definition, examples, and practice questions to help guide you in the learning process. Further explanation is provided for harder to understand idioms.

ESL educator, Peter Liptak, does a fantastic job helping students gain confidence in the English language. It’s not hard to see that he wrote this book with each student in mind. As you follow along, you will notice the organized pattern in each chapter. I liked the many examples and the organization of the book; it’s easy to read and learn from. This text also does a really good job engaging students beyond just reading about the different idioms. At the end of each chapter, you will find illustrations, crosswords, and fill-in-the-blank worksheets. I thought this was helpful in retaining the information from each chapter.

I originally did not have anything negative to say about this book. I was trying to read with a student’s perspective in mind. I do think it would have been helpful for Liptak to have included the list of idioms used at the beginning of the chapter for study purposes. If a student needed to have an immediate list for studying, it would be at the beginning for students to easily access. This would prevent students from having to flip through the whole chapter to know which idioms are used. However, this suggestion should not hinder anyone from reading this book because the author did a great job designing an organized and easy to follow text.

I gave this book a 4 out of a 4 rating because this book is exceptionally flawless and well-edited. The authors designed a book that is easy to follow for ESL students. Plus, it is a useful tool for all different levels. Overall, I would recommend reading Idiom Attack.
