Have you ever picked up a book and known immediately that you were going to love it? That is how I felt the first time I looked at the cover for The Ultimate Guide For The Avid Indoorsman. The title intrigued me. The cover, at first glance, was enough to make me pick up the book, but the more I looked at it, the more excited I got. The cover demonstrates that inside, a person will have wifi, a couch, and, most importantly, no Bigfoot. The tag line “life is better in here” ensures that the reader knows what they are getting into.

Author John Driver wrote The Ultimate Guide For The Avid Indoorsman with the intent of mimicking an outdoor guide. He wants the book to feel like an authentic guide experience, even going to the extent of including the history of the indoors and illustrations. He even includes a quiz at the beginning of the book for the reader to determine their “level of indoorsmanship,” which are his words, which allows the reader to see where they are in their “indoorsmanship” as well as see how they can grow. All of these features are in addition to the guides that the title promises.

My favorite part of the book is the sheer ridiculousness of it. It is a fun book and does not take itself too seriously. Despite that, the book is a nonfiction book. It includes genuine information that can help the reader. The author had a lot of fun researching and writing this book, and it shows in the finished product.

There is honestly no part of this book that I dislike. The book is formatted well with clear chapters and sections. The voice reminds me of Neil Gaiman, even to the point that John Driver has some footnotes similar to the ones Neil Gaiman includes in his novels. Most importantly, as I have said before, the book is just enjoyable.

The book is remarkably well-edited. I didn’t notice any mistakes in spelling or grammar. Because of the editing and my general enjoyment of the book, I rate it 4 out of 4 stars.

I highly recommend this book to everybody, especially to those who want a fun nonfiction book or want an actual guide to the indoors. It’s an easy read and quick to get through. If any aspect of this book sounds interesting to you, pick it up to read. You will not regret it.
