Finding a Job in Tough Times

By Dr. Tim Johnson

"This is not a novel but a teaching book, so you need something to write on for the lesson are a life-time valuable guidance that will shape you into a competent person in your career." That's what the author said in the introductory part and I agree to it. There are no characters in this none fiction work, but the reader is the expected character to act on Dr.Johnson's written voice in this book of twelve chapters, each chapter thouroughly explained in the possible, simple and instructive way to enable the student (reader) get all concept with ease, and the author provided exercises over every topic.

The author starts with instructing his students (readers) to take some measures of knowing whom they are individually: To find a job, you must know who you are. You need to look at yourself on the perspective of the employer, for what will make you hired, is meeting your employer's expectations. Have a goal why you need a job for, because just making money should not be the only reason for finding a job. Know why you picked up the very job you did instead of other jobs. Prepare for interviews and know what attracted you to that company. Make sure you acquire the ability and skills in your career to do the job you intend applying for. Note that school only prepared you for your career and not the job; so efforts to aquire the needed skills for the desired possition should be made to hence qualifications. Always plan and redifine your goals and also know that real goals start as wishes. Be focused on what you want. These are but only part of the teachings Mr Author implied in his work.

Though not being an entertainment book, Mr Johnson's writing style is mind captivating and thought provocative. I found myself in broad thinking over the teachings, and questions popped up in my mind like: How do people describe me, on what area do I need change in my life, how many people do take time to check my facebook account profile and what do they think about me telling from the information they get, does that affect my qualifications? So many more questions clicked on my mind, as I was reading this book from the perspective of a student and I enjoyed the lessons like the only student of the principal.

The language is straight and easy to understand for everyone, which is one of what I liked most about this book. It offered genuine advise and insight on how to improve qualifications skills to both job seekers and promotion expectants, that is another reason I liked; to shorten the listing, I liked everything about this book: the easy to understand writing style instructive teachings like: "To bring meaning to a relationship means spending some time just on that relationship. On an interview, the employer is first concerned that you can do the job (or learn the job). Your degree and experience (the labs and COOP) answer that question.
Next, the employer wants to know about you. Only you can tell him about yourself.
To do that, you must know yourself.

The concept is none offensive to any religion, no offensive language or distactive scenes, thus it's good to all age group in search of employment, starting with young adults. So I recommend students and immediate graduates to get a copy of this book. It's also an additional tool for self career development to the already employees aspiring to be promoted, change career or company. As for those who like entertaining or thrill novels, they can skip this one

I think the book was professionally edited telling from not finding many errors in it.

4 out of 4 stars is my final rating because of the simple easy to understand writing style, the important concept in it which is useful for self development to many people of various communities and career paths plus the book was professionally edited.
