Finding a Job in Tough Times by Dr. Tim Johnson is a not a motivational book. It is not a book that will sweet talk and give you vain courage that things will get better and that your dream job will soon come your way. It is rather a practical guide on how you can get that dream job you have been craving. Everybody desire a great job but majority do not get the jobs they desire. What separates the successful ones from the others is not luck, it is preparation. And that is what this awesome book is all about; preparing you for that special moment.
One of the major problems applicants face is how to respond successfully to interview questions. As the author rightly pointed out, a curriculum vitae might get you a chance to face the interview panel, but only your character and person can get employed. This is clearly evident in this lines ”During the interview, employers make one crucial decision and that is the decision to hire you or not. You need to get a sense of who it is that they are see, when you apply for a job. If you can meet their expectations, they will hire you. If you can get them to consider you for the position, they might hire you. The interview is your opportunity to show them that even though you might be different from their expectations, you can do the work required for the position”.
The author strongly suggests and I agree that everybody is employable. And with the practical guides provided in this book, I think many applicants will wipe away the frustrations of being turned down.
This non fictional work whose primary aim is to help job seekers and young school leavers get that interesting job they so desire. It is written in simple and plain English. The style is direct yet very engaging.
I like this book because the author did a lot of research to produce a rich and well articulated book. The concept of giving the reader exercises really helped me redefine who I am and what I desire from life. And I think many people out there are out of employment because they haven’t really been able to understand themselves and what exactly they want out of life. College degree is awesome, but as I got discover in this book, it is often not enough. We all need something extra.
I rate this book 4 out of 4 stars for the concise and practical steps outlined to help the job seeker become a better person. I don’t believe this book should be recommended to only job seekers, but to all who seek to understand themselves and find out the different personality traits they carry.

You are welcome dear. Thanks for your honest comment too!Ever_Reading wrote: ↑05 Nov 2019, 09:06 Preparation often trumps luck when it comes to opportunities. I am glad the author tells it like it is and gives his advice in simple English. While I'm not the right audience for this book, I know a couple of people who might benefit from reading it. Thanks for the review!
