Sooner or later, everyone faces a time in their lives when they are looking for a job. Whether you are looking for your first job after graduation or any time after that, Finding A Job in Tough Times by Dr. Tim Johnson is the book to set your career on the right path. The book is not only for those people finding a job, but people who are hoping to rediscover themselves will also find this book essential. This book not only helps you find jobs but, more fundamentally, it paves the way for you to find the job you love, and helps you to succeed in it.
The most important thing about this book, and what I like most about it is that the book is not a long lecture about success and achievements. Instead, the book contains short chapters, forty-eight to be exact, each of which has exercises for you to perform for understanding yourself. For example, the first chapter tells you to write about the person you admire, and then the second one is about describing yourself. In this way, you can compare yourself with what you want to be. With forty-eight likewise interesting examples, the author constructs his book, and each chapter brings you closer to your goal.
These exercises not only help you in getting a job but also enables you to become a better person. My favorite part is the one in which the author instructs you to “never say no” to anything for the whole day. I tried the same and had an enjoyable experience. Just try and think about how many different experiences you can have if you said yes to everything the whole day.
Another big positive for the book is that the narration is very light-hearted and conversational. Reading the book feels very pleasant and helps the individual, equivalent to a career counseling session. Not to mention the author, Dr. Tim Johnson’s experience that he has shared throughout the book, in the form of little stories, is highly educational and inspiring. His experience at the recruiting office and interview board is invaluable, and he puts that to meaningful use in his book.
Overall, I think that this book is exceptional and that I could not find a single thing to raise a finger at in this book. The editing is flawless and clean. A few line breaks could have been placed better, but that does not deter the reader from an enjoyable reading experience. I give the book 4 out of 4 stars because this book does its job superbly. I highly encourage all readers looking for a job to read this book, as it will be worth your time.
