Finding a Job in Tough Times by Dr. Tim Johnson offers assistance to those who want help in their job search. The book lists down the things a job seeker or a promotion seeker should do to have a positive mindset: from evaluating oneself to listing down career opportunities to deciding from these opportunities the one most suitable, and to being ready for the nerve-wracking interview. Each chapter presents a topic followed by one or two exercises to apply the concepts. How do we deal with rejection in a job interview? How do we cope with feelings of inadequacy? How do we make ourselves special to get the interviewer’s nod? These are just some of the concerns raised in this book. Resume preparation has never been this challenging!

There are many things I liked about this book. Though its main objective is to help anyone who is searching for a job or promotion, the book can be applied to anybody in general. It can pass as a workbook or exercise guide. Things that seemed trivial can make many differences in the long run. Even attendance in school can be used to account one's kills or abilities.

Finding a Job in Tough Times was quite comprehensive in terms of accounting a person's varied roles in life. To my surprise, the book did not just help me account my skills and abilities necessary in a job search; it also provided to me a means to find more about my capabilities as a person. Furthermore, this book offered me an opportunity to reassess and evaluate myself as a person. In short, I was able to reacquaint myself with my core as a person. It was also informative as Johnson provided some discussions on the types of job changes.

The book was written with positivity, and this apparent intent was communicated clearly by the author. Johnson reiterated what is important in life: failure should not hinder one's progress; instead, it should motivate one to stand up and never give up.

The book has minimal grammatical errors like a missing question mark and a missing hyphen in the later part.

I give Finding a Job in Tough Times by Dr. Tim Johnson 4 out 4 stars. The book was very informative and helpful, a delight to read and the minimal grammatical errors did not in any way distract me from a smooth and enjoyable read.

Finding a Job in Tough Times will be appreciated by new graduates, those preparing a resume and those who want a different position in their work. However, this is not a novel, as the author had forewarned. So if you are looking forward to having a night reading a novel of your favorite genre, this book is not for you.
