This is my review of Don't Mind Me, I'm Just Having a Bad Life by Lewis Kempfer.

The book is an autobiography of Lewis Kempfer chronicling his ups and downs during his life up to the present day. At the start of the book, we have an explosive prelude that really sets the scene for the life of Lewis as straight away we hear a tale of his drug use and debauchery that has gone wrong.

Once we have read what is a pretty hair raising and graphic prelude the story then begins recounting tales of his childhood which sadly is littered with accounts of abuse and disappointment. We also read about the kind of experiences many people go through during childhood years such as moving home, trying to make friends, getting in trouble and dealing with an absent parent.

As Lewis reaches adulthood his story gets only ever darker as he enters the world of drug addiction and all the inevitable problems that come with becoming a heavy drug user. There are also many chapters focusing on his attempt at relationships which is pretty much a constant throughout the book that he is always looking for someone to love and love him back.

It is not all doom and gloom as there are some happy moments for Lewis even though they quite often turn out to be short-lived. He also discusses throughout the book how his faith in God and Jesus ultimately helped him through hard times which I thought was going to turn into a promotion for religion but I was pleasantly surprised with the ending which explains his belief now and it didn't say what I thought it would, I won't say here what he said as it is worth reading for yourself!

I would rate this book 4 out of 4 as it is really well written, the book has been edited well and the story is engaging. The writing really keeps you turning the pages to find out what happens next and for me personally, I was always hoping the next chapter was going to be the start of something good for Lewis. There were only two minor errors with a duplicated word once and the wrong year typed once.

This book does contain graphic scenes relating to drug use, sex, homosexuality and child abuse both physical and mental so you should not read this book if any of those topics are difficult for you.

I would recommend this book for anyone that enjoys reading a true-life story and isn't upset by the topics stated in the previous paragraph.

This was a good read and I thoroughly enjoyed the book, Don't Mind Me, I'm Just Having a Bad Life by Lewis Kempfer.
