Invent, Innovate & Prosper
by Michael G. Colburn
Did you find a problem in an everyday incident that needs fixing, and you’re interested in doing so? Do you want to become an inventor? Is your aim to be more educated? Do you wish to become better at observing and noticing?
Whichever one you relate to from the aforementioned questions, this book will definitely give good guidance and will cover the answers of issues connected to inventing you might be dealing with, like these:
How do I get started?
What are the necessary amounts of information I should gather?
How can I organize, categorize my thoughts and ideas?
Which are the main steps that lead to successful patent licensing?
Are there any recommended companions who would help me throughout the process?
The author, Michael G. Colburn starts his book by telling us that inventors are not born - they are created, and we all have the ability to become one as well. He carefully writes down every step and point to becoming a great inventor in 7 parts, and more than 14 chapters (each beginning with a quote connected to the topic) which includes the appendix, with several samples of agreements, contracts, and forms. Through the guide, there are many pictures of his sketches and final products that help a lot by making his statements and explanations easily understandable. In some parts there are also sources and links to websites that can provide a huge gain - you’ll have them collected in a book, instead of having to gather them one by one. He frequently adds his own opinion and advice which he’d gained in more than 4 decades of being an inventor and founder of businesses.
In my opinion, this book presents knowledge that can give a person major advantages in the industry. The advice and methods included can also be used in real life, by people who don’t care as much about inventing as they do about connecting to their creative brain, or becoming more advanced in observing and noticing details. The target audience is obviously the group of people who are interested in inventing, and that doesn’t just include elder, but younger communities as well. The phrasing is very clear, so it won’t be an obstacle. There were no spelling- or grammar mistakes, and the whole book was beautifully edited, although it was sometimes hard to read because of the lack of commas and took some time to fully understand it, but this rarely happened. If I’d have to say a number, it would definitely be under 15.
I really liked this book, I think it’s an amazing way to get started and gain knowledge in the particular topics. Even though I don’t think my dream job is to be an inventor, there were lots of interesting pieces of information that I’ll use in my day-to-day life. I would highly recommend making time in your life to read it, and I give it 4 stars out of 4.
