Review by Sydney Nyamasoka -- Invent, Innovate & Pro...
Invent, Innovate & Prosper, is a step by step guide authored by Michael. G. Colburn, an experienced and successful inventor. Michael is the founder of Ideas Well Done and other notably successful firms. This is an incredible guide with practical and proven principles which can enable you to invent, innovate and prosper. The author says that anyone who creates a unique solution to a problem can be an inventor. This makes practical sense and is therefore the premise of all inventions. The author states that a fully functional and coordinated mind, an applied creation process, observation and hypothesis are crucial for one to be inventive. Michael. G. Colburn mentions his inventions and refers the reader to how he created practical solutions to problems in a thoroughly detailed manner. The author gives insight into how a creative problem solver can monetize their unique and useful solutions. Fundamentally, the author emphasized the importance of worthy dedication and mindfulness in the area of your interest. The author stresses that an inventor has to be greatly imaginative, has to think of the usefulness of their intended invention before setting out to execute envisioned plans otherwise it would be a fruitless endeavor.
The author categorized his book into parts that flow logically helping the inventor with guidelines that enable the inventor to be successful. The book has fourteen chapters with a total of eighteen steps for carrying out an invention, testing it, making changes, spotting other unintended inventions, patenting and profitably marketing the invention. He makes it clear that every successful invention begins in the mind. Therefore one’s mind has to be attuned to spotting areas in need of change, enhancements or total overhaul and the mind has to bring appropriate ways of doing this thereby creating innovative inventions. The author also briefly explains the brains' structure and how the inventor can prepare his or her split brains into a powerful force for inventive success. According to this guide, the major investments you need are honestly stated as mind setting, time, information and financial resources. Inventions are not for those with an eye for ill-thought shortcuts. The book contains mental exercises that gradually and completely shape the mind into an inventive state which is incredibly useful for the reader. The book contains techniques commonly and widely used by inventors.
The principles behind all inventions are applicable in every sphere of human activity which makes this book interesting and good for anyone who is serious about creating solutions to problems. The fact that the author made a mistake as he started out motivates the reader as this did not hinder him from persisting in his endeavors, it actually pushed him to solve the problem. Once an inventor has come up with an invention, the author emphasizes the need of patenting the invention without delay. The author stresses the importance of imagination, hard work and thorough knowledge acquisition and evaluation. A lot of writing has been expended on explaining the importance of understanding the problem you intend to solve with your inventions as well as idea generation and benefits thereof. This book is indispensable as it lays out the principles behind inventions, not to mention the monetary benefits that can be yielded.
All aspiring inventors should get this practical guide in their journey, knowing that just as it takes time to invent, this guide also needs an attentive and patient mind. I especially liked that this book is practical. The author did well and struck a balance in blending his experiences with those of other high profile inventors. For aspiring and serious inventors, the author does welcome them to share their experiences through his website and email address. However, I did not enjoy the overly detailed techniques mentioned in the book. The author tended to flood the text with what I thought were unnecessary details and this really drains attention. I would recommend this book to all patient readers with curious and observant minds eyeing opportunities to bring solutions for identified problems in their respective fields. There were a few spelling errors of compound words but they are very minor and may even be unnoticed. I rate this book, "4 out of 4 stars."
