Official Review: A Guided Tour of Mad Men: The Second Season

Post by HateToWin »

[Following is the official OnlineBookClub.org review of "A Guided Tour of Mad Men: The Second Season" by Ron Replogle.]

This book chronicles the thirteen episodes of season 2 of Mad Men, a show which takes place in the 1960's and follows the life of Don Draper, the creative director of the Sterling Cooper advertising agency, and is intended to be used to refresh your memory of key plot points and character development that happened in season 2.

This book is short and gets right to its intended purpose, which is to keep you refreshed on what has happened in previous seasons of the show without having to re-watch them. It only takes around 8 pages to cover each episode, but within those few pages it covers the important aspects and gives you insight into the episode. With a book like this the length is a great thing, as you can quickly read it to get refreshed on anything you may have forgotten about.

I enjoyed the way in which this book was written. It was kept short but it included a lot of details and the authors insights into the underlying meanings of certain situations and it never felt as though it was slowing down the pace at which he was recapping the stories. Not only do I think that this is a great way to recap season 2 as you are trying to refresh your memory of what all has happened throughout the series, it is also a good was to quickly get caught up on what is going on if you have not saw the show before and want to hurry in to newer episodes.

This is a great book to have while watching Mad Men to keep yourself refreshed on some of the finer points, and I hope Mr. Replogle continues to come out with more books to cover the rest of the series.

Overall I would give this book 4 out of 4 stars, it is well written and does its job great.

The brevity of the book is undoubtedly one of its strengths. With only around 8 pages per episode, it allows readers to swiftly revisit the crucial aspects of the season without the need to re-watch the episodes. This is particularly helpful for busy viewers or those seeking a quick refresher.
