‘The Three Musketeers’ have been carefully saving for a trip to their preferred destination, Australia. Life as a casual laborer in Rotterdam, the Netherlands, is hard. Al and Sean are getting worried about Young Tone who seems to be withdrawing from the plan since he has found a girlfriend in the Netherlands. They have been working extra hard to have enough money for this trip. What will they do about him? Will Young Tone change his mind? Will they ever get to the ‘Land of Plenty’?

True Tales of a Traveller: One Day in Bangkok is a nonfiction story authored by Alix Lee. This is the tenth story in the series which consists of short stories that can each be read as a standalone. The setting of this remarkable story is in the Netherlands and Thailand in the mid-1980s. The book consists of 22 pages and consequently, can be devoured in a single sitting. Readers will be transported through a journey of laughter and sympathy as well. You will realize how simple misunderstandings can generate devastating consequences after reading this book.

I had to keep reminding myself I was reading a factual story because at times my mind got carried away. The author employed vivid descriptions in the story, and in this way, it was easy to be inside it. There was a lot of humor in the story as well. I found myself laughing when the author described how hard it was to find a girlfriend in Rotterdam. Young Tone was so delighted when he hooked up with a girl that he instantly withdrew from the plan he had with his friends. The author also revealed the adverse working conditions during the 1980s. The three friends had all migrated from their countries to seek greener pastures in the Netherlands.

What I liked most about the story was the writing style. The author adequately described everything vividly. The conversations were very lively and realistic. The narration also flowed seamlessly from the description of life in the Netherlands through to the shocking experience in Bangkok, Thailand. The author was also candid about his experiences. I also enjoyed the fact that the story was simple to read and grasp. There is nothing I did not like about the book.

One of the reasons why I selected this book is that I enjoy traveling. I am glad I was not disappointed. I picked up many lessons that could be valuable in the future. I am also persuaded that other readers will learn much while reading the story. The language employed was straightforward. The editing was also professionally done. I, therefore, rate this book 4 out of 4 stars. I enthusiastically recommend it to ardent fans of nonfiction books. It will appeal most to those who love traveling.

Your description reads very much like a boys' story but in a good way. I liked the way it seemed like it was very much based in a sense of camaraderie and friendship that's easy to come by when you have shared experiences like this.
