WOW... sit back and hold on tight because, Don't Mind Me, I'm Just Having A Bad Life by Lewis Kempfer, is about to take you on one wild, emotional ride. I personally don't like memoirs but, I decided to give this book a try because, it was faith based. From the moment little four year old Lewis gave me a peak into his horrific childhood, I was hooked; all the way through until Lewis became a middle aged man.

I have to rate this book 4 out of 4 Stars When I chose this book, I honestly must have missed that it was about a middle aged gay man coming to Jesus story. While a lot of people may think this, I read a totally different book. This book touched my very soul and helped me do a lot of self healing by just reading all the horrific events he has overcome in his life. Lewis Kempfer gives me hope and a renewed love for religion and people in general. I rated this book 4 Stars because, I feel ANYONE can get some sort of self healing from his story.

I would like to warn those who may be triggered by sexual abuse, drugs, and violence, this book is not a princess fairy-tale story. There is strong language, moments of intense violence involving children and adults, explicit sexual content involving children and adults, and heavy drug use. You may ask yourself," I thought this book was about Faith, God, and Finding all the above?" Well, you would be correct. While this book is a hard, emotional read, it is well worth it and exceptionally well edited.

I loved this book because, it shows that with hard work and faith, you over come even the worst of times. The author's life started out being horrific with abuse and neglect from his parents. Having a father who didn't show him anything but, negative attention and abuse, would have been horrific enough. No, poor little Lewis had many people in him very young life that either physically or mentally abused him. The very people who were meant to protect him, only failed him.

As Lewis grows into a man, he over comes many obstacles, from heavy drug addition to many failed romantic relationships. There were many times though out the book I was afraid we would find Lewis dead in an alley somewhere or OD-ed in some sleazy hotel room. Thankfully, God had other plans for this wonderful Author and I truly believe this memoir (with hopefully more to come) was the result of those plans.

If you are struggling with any type of addiction, identity crises, or PTSD, this book is a great read, while hard at times. It will take you on a journey of healing through all this authors ups and downs of life. If you want to see how God can bring someone back from the very pits of hell, this book is must read. Lewis Kempfer has left me wanting to know more about what happens next. I truly can't wait until his next memoir.
