Review by Destinyestes215 -- Don't Mind Me, I'm Just Hav...
This book draws you in very deep into the true-life of a very misunderstood young man who just wants to be noticed and loved. Explaining his life in every detail and the consequences of his actions instantly suck you right in. His story offers an eye-opening and honest reflection of his journey to recovery and finding himself. Most of the time throughout this book I could not believe what I was reading, I could not believe that people were this cruel to one another. Through Kempfers’ recovery, he shows hope for anyone who is struggling with the issues of loss of faith, self-worth, and many addictions.
In this amazing book, Don’t mind me, I'm just having a bad life, Lewis Kempfer looked for any way to be happy. Struggling with depression, physical, and psychological abuse from a very young age from all the males he had trusted leading him to feel traumatized, depressed, and suicidal from such a young age into his adulthood. Working for a pizza company he also tried going to church to help find faith but after being rejected in the church for being gay he earned his bachelor's degree and successfully started his career in a theatre, which also leads to him working at Walt Disney company. I am surprised nobody realized his drug addiction.
Moving to Hollywood to began his career and find love, he finds himself engulfed in a dark place consumed by disease and hardcore drugs. Through his self-hatred and his insecurities, he tried to find people online to abuse him and subside his sex addiction to try and help himself feel wanted and needed but he wanted someone to love him and only him. He thought because of his past that it justified his addiction and problems. He never thought during a near-death experience he would find strength in a place he never expected.
But despite the cruel world he tried everything he could to become happy and drag him out of his darkest hours. His tale is jaw-dropping and has phenomenal endless deep details of someone's life and you feel as if you’re living that life right along with him and you want to have empathy for him. Despite all his downs, he had many ups as becoming a performer on stage and finding his identity. Despite his struggles, he pushes on.
His tale of loss, redemption, and love will move anyone who feels like an outcast, misunderstood, or abnormal. Don’t mind me, I’m just having a bad life, is an extraordinary tale of a real-life story. If you like feeling as if you're experiencing somebody's life right with them or stories of struggles of being LGBTQ, depressed, or struggling with a disease, then you will be thrilled with Lewis Kempfers' amazing memoir. I loved this book and I wish the story continued and had a better ending, but I think it leaves the reader wanting more. I would rate this book 4/4 I could not get enough it continued to draw me in.
