They always say that home is not a house, which is true. It is the people and the feelings that accompany it. Denis Pickwell, the author of Homeward takes us through thought provoking verses, which he had initially written with no intention of publishing but later the verses become a source of inspiration to many.

We are all looking for a sense of belonging, a place to call ours, that is welcoming and offers peace of mind. Most of the time we go astray when we fail to live up to God's expectations of us. When we ignore the red flags and choose to live contrary to God's ways, we end up losing our way altogether. Tracing our way back requires a lot of discipline and dedication. We feel restless and uneasy until we get to a place where one gets fulfilment, so, when we don't have that contentment in the places we are, we keep on looking and searching. Searching until the heart is pleased. Searching until the mind is at ease.

The author takes us through a process of spiritual soul searching. Irrespective of ones religion, this book guides on how to get home. It drives one to comfort and fulfilment. The author includes a note on how he was taken to a boarding school when he was very young and the destabilizing feeling he got from the experience. There is no way he could avoid it since this was the only working solution for the moment. Such situations are what triggers one to want to belong.

This book is poetically written. The verses are absorbing and the rhyme makes it very attractive and interesting. There are clever questions which trigger critical thinking. The author guides on the process of getting answers to spiritual situations. This book inspires and motivates one to live an honest life. What actually caught my attention was the book cover, which is attractive and I at first thought that it is a fictional novel, until later when I read the book's description.

Having enjoyed the verses and the insights, I rate this book 4 out of 4 stars. The writing style is in verses, thus not tedious. I also felt that the errors present are allowed by the writing style the author chose and their so need for alarm. Being poetically written, you should also expect repetition. I recommend it to anyone needing some spiritual awakening in a poetic way.
