Official Review: The Unusual Life of Dennis J.Foley
The Unusual Life of Dennis J. Foley is a non-fiction book that talks about the strange events that happened in the author’s life. The book looks at these strange events and tries to piece them together to form a coherent theory on how the world works. Based on his experiences, Dennis J. Foley attempts in his book to make sense of the strange events in his life.
The book starts as an autobiography, detailing the author’s childhood and everyday life. He talks about his life in school, the dogs he met throughout his childhood, and stories relating to his wife. But then, everything changed when his wife died of ovarian cancer. From then on, the book dives into the author’s observations regarding paranormal events. He observes these phenomena in the lives of cats he adopted. And from these observations, the author infers that there is “a Template or Formation of events” that manifests in American history.
The autobiography format brings a sense of “an everyday life” feel to the author’s stories. He would talk about strange (and often traumatizing) events like the death of one of his cats, framing it as “just another day.” In a way, this helps the reader to relate more with the author.
Unfortunately, the book contains multiple errors. An example includes “I sub title this ;just another day', as after experiencing one of the un usual events soon after the death of one of my beloved cats.” There were already more than 10 grammatical errors on the first page of the book. From this, I can say that the book is not professionally edited.
But what I disliked the most about this book is the book’s unbelievable content. After the poorly-edited autobiography part, the author casually talks about how he communicated with dead spirits and how he “levitated” inside a church. He goes on to talk about his other books that explain his theory on how the world works. I don’t mind reading about such books, but I can’t accept that the author presents these things as facts.
It’s hard to take a book seriously when an author presents it as an autobiography, only to include paranormal events as if they can happen without question. Overall, The Unusual Life of Dennis J. Foley is more of an introductory book of the author’s theory on how the world works than an autobiography. I rate this book 1 out of 4 stars. I don’t think I can recommend this book to any reader because I don’t see any value in reading this book.
