Official Review: Training La Enforcement Officers
Training Law Enforcement Officers by Rick Giovengo is a non-fiction guide on how instructors can efficiently and effectively train police offers to do their job correctly. The author uses sophisticated language and a formal tone to explain his thoughts and viewpoints, while he also relies on extensive research to prove his opinions.
The author begins by introducing the meaning of training, as well as some of its main characteristics. He continues by analyzing the function of the human brain, providing psychological insights about memory, brain plasticity, and stress/pressure. He then goes over basic features of a police academy, while he also explains the significance of ethics for law enforcement officers. In particular, he explains what is meant by copyright, and how plagiarism can be avoided. Next, the writer describes how instructors can be taught to do their job more effectively. He mentions some useful advice that can be given to instructors to help them plan for the lecture, manage the classroom, and assess the police officers/agents. The author also explores the importance of motivating the police officers so that they can be engaged in the lesson.
I liked many aspects of the guide. To begin with, the book was outstandingly structured, as it followed a logical, clear, and coherent flow, which helped the reader understand the writer’s thoughts, thereby creating a persuasive argument. Additionally, the author has researched the topic very well, as seen by the many sources he references at the end of the book. This improves his professionalism and credibility, as it helps him show that what he is writing is based on facts, therefore it is true. What I liked most about this book was that it contained several illustrations and diagrams, which added vividness to the text, thereby grasping the reader’s attention.
However, I also disliked some aspects of the book. More specifically, it contained a few errors, which undermined the author’s credibility and professionalism. What I disliked most about the book was that it was boring, uninteresting, and monotonous in some cases, since it contained irrelevant details.
The book is best suited for readers interested in training police officers. Readers who have some knowledge of psychology will understand the author’s points more easily, as the author includes some sophisticated psychological principles in the text. The book is suited for readers of all religions, including non-religion.
I rate this book with 3 out of 4 stars. The book does not deserve a higher rating, as it is contained errors and was monotonous. Nevertheless, a lower rating would have been unfair, as the author has created a persuasive, structured guide on training law enforcement officers.
