Adding a follow up to the above...this book is unique in being highly readable yet packed with history. The beginning covers the era of the hippies. Through character profiles it winds around to the changes in politics, influx of crime and hard drugs, the disillusion left by Vietnam, Altamont and Manson as the end of and era, the rise and fall of the SLA and Jim Jones, the landmark changes in gay rights and the politics of the new decade. Whew, engrossing to say the least.
