Have you ever wondered how the global economy works? Why economies perform the way they do? The role played by the wealthy elites in the economy? Have you ever wondered how economic policy is developed? Accordingly, billionaires are the owners of capital investment in the global economy. Therefore, with the aid of political puppets, they create laws to help themselves to create wealth at the expense of the masses.

The Billionaires’ Handbook is a 96-page user’s guide which is written in informal language from the perspective of a blindfolded billionaire in the American economy. It is formulated in order to shed light on the above-mentioned issues, and more. The book opens with the story of a king who had money problems and how he created rules to solve it for himself and for his friends. The book goes forth to recount the progression of economic systems from feudalism to cynicism. It also describes 30 rules of playing with the global economy today.

The main character of the book is a blindfolded billionaire who has a rose-tinted view of the economy. He is the representative of all billionaires in the economy. The global economy is the billionaire’s stage, his gold-mine. He has been endowed with a responsibility to come up with 25 rules to help his kind to amass and maintain the bigger chunk of national wealth. Fast-forward, after retirement, in order to leave a good legacy, the billionaire sets out again to right the wrongs of the economy because he wants to go down history lane as “The Greatest American of the 21st Century.” He formulates another set of 20 rules to that effect.

The themes of the book are inequality, injustice, wealth creation, economy and rules. It contains simple illustrations to explain the principles so it is easy to understand. I most like the rich symbolism the author has employed in the book to aid the reader in understanding the subject matter. He highlights the unjust economic system in a way that left me planning a public uprising in my head. Nevertheless, the blindfolded billionaire seems to have figured that out as well. Consequently, he has it covered in Rule 22 of the 30 rules of the Billionaire game. I did not like anything least and I would not change anything in the book because it is fascinating.

The Billionaires’ Handbook by Andrew Stevenson is suitable for all who wish to understand the determinants and performance of the global economy. The book explains macroeconomics in a playful manner. It also explains the rampant financial inequality and exploitation of the ‘Have-nots’ by the ‘Haves’ of the society. The book contains an erotic symbolic illustration. However, the author has used it to explain asset stripping. I also came across a minor profanity though I cannot count it as a real profanity because the author has symbolically inserted it in a traffic light frame to portray the billionaire apathy-mentality.

I will not rate the book 3 stars due to the author’s creativity in structuring the content. It has helped me immensely to understand the global economy in a way I have not imagined before. Moreover, the errors present in the book are not enough to warrant the deduction of a star. Therefore, I rate The Billionaires’ Handbook by Andrew Stevenson 4 out of 4 stars.
