I had high expectations for Launch It! by Rick Benzel and Susan Shankin. Rick Benzel is an editor, ghostwriter, and book consultant with decades of experience while Susan Shankin is a publisher, art director, designer, and book coach also with decades of experience in the field. The introduction and about-the-author sections go into all these details and you know they mean business. With so much experience and talent, I was excited to read and, as I said, had high expectations. Luckily, I was anything but disappointed.

Launch It! provides readers with a seemingly simple seven-step process to write a book and publish it. Of course, it is more than just seven steps but everything has been simplified for readers. The seven steps include discovering your purpose, making a game plan, organizing and outlining, writing and revisions, your book cover and interior design, your book layout, proofing, and publishing, and marketing and promoting your final project. This book walks readers through each step and addresses all your excuses for not writing yet. It even provides FAQs, samples, and ideas for each section.

Honestly, this book was everything I needed to get my own book out of my head. Sure, I’ve started but I have found every reason under the sun not to continue. Not anymore. The authors quite literally voiced all of my concerns and procrastinations but let me know it was normal. They then helped motivate me by breaking down each step, providing new and useful information, and letting me know my next steps. This was probably one of the best parts of the book.

I liked nearly everything about this book and had difficulty finding anything I didn’t like. The book was well written and I found minimal grammatical errors. It was easy to understand and covered all the necessary aspects of writing and publishing a book. The authors provided different options available to readers and also provided their recommendations based on their experience.

If I was forced to choose something I disliked about the book, then it may be the book covers/examples throughout. They provided good motivation and examples of book covers. However, at times, I felt that the authors were really just promoting other people’s books and their own work. That said, it did not bother me enough that I would take away a star from my rating.

Overall, I would give this book 4 out of 4 stars for the above reasons. The book was well written and I enjoyed it immensely. I would highly recommend it as it is remarkably helpful for new writers. For those in a similar spot to me or those who haven’t started yet, this book is a god-send. I would even recommend this to established writers because the authors may mention some things you haven’t thought about before.

I love self help books that are worth the hype. I'm not looking to publish a book any time soon. But I'm sure that this piece will come in handy for aspiring authors and publishers.

I could definitely be considered a how-to book. It doesn't go over every bit of writing and publishing but definitely hits the key points.

Their experience sure helped them with this I think. Surely a good read!
