This ePub is a collection of poems and journal entries. At first glance, you would automatically assume that this is a book dedicated to a cancer survivor: WRONG. This collection of work does have a strong focus on cancer, however it also covers a whole lot more.

I will start with the great characteristics of this book. The focus around cancer is very deep. These poems cover the realization of the diagnosis of disease, how it has an impact on family, daunting thoughts, how to find strength when you and your family need it the most, and how to find peace with what lies ahead. The other poems and entries range from humor to family and love and a whole lot in between (including what seems to be abuse and violence).

The depth of these poems is very real, even for someone who generally doesn’t like to read poetry. This is not a “Roses are red” type of poetry book. When reading any of these poems, you can feel the hurt or happiness flowing through the words. It takes a lot of strength and selflessness to write down such private and intimate details. But reading any of these poems, you can relate to most of them (if not all). Almost everyone has lost someone special in their lives or think they have fallen in love or witnessed or have taken some part in domestic violence.

Now come the issues. I’m not sure if the ePub formatting came though properly on my reader, so I will not comment to columns and spacing looking off. That could have been a reader issue. However, there were definitely grammar and punctuation issues. I also felt that it was a little bit unorganized. The collection could have been grouped among topics, not necessarily chapters, but just groupings or sorting.

Again, I am very impressed with Renee Robinson’s book. I rate it at 3 out of 4 stars because the detail and creativity of her words make for a great read. I was almost sad when I finished the book because I wanted to continue to read more and learn more about how she is overcoming her battles. I am glad that she included information about herself and listed her other works.
