If This Is A Man, by Primo Levi

Post by Misaela »

I read this book when I was about 15 or so. I had never read about the Holocaust from someone who experienced it firsthand, and it moved me. After finishing it, I became fascinated with the subject, and have ever since looked for more books and information about it. It is crude and very real. Just like it has to be.

OMG this book has been on my bedside locker for so long & I haven't got around to reading it yet. I've come across it being referenced in so many books and reviews - I really must bump it up the pile. I find that book I have purchased keep loosing their place in the TBR pile to books I have to return in a reasonable time to either the library or to a friend.
So many books, so little time. :(

I've learnt that I have to make a list, or else every book I own will eventually get bumped forever!

I too read this book many years ago and found it profoundly moving, as is The Truce.
I was very saddened by Levi's apparent suicide in 1987, after all that he had endured I found it difficult to believe that it should end this way.I guess those memories would have haunted him for ever.
A great book, well worth the read.

Glad to see Primo Levi mentioned. I just bought three of his books and they're on the shelf waiting to be read. Hopefully over the holidays.
